Traditionally victimization occurs with victim and offender being connected in formal or informal capacities. However, this begs the question of what is to be considered of the relationship between unsuspecting stranger and offender or familiar abuser and victim? Use the provided readings to discuss the following:

• What leads an individual to abuse someone in need of their care?
• Is there a connection between individuals who intentionally abuse and those whom they abuse?
• Provide your own understanding of the role that privilege plays in abuse.
• What is there to be said about white persons who adopt marginalized children and then abuse them? Consider that this is not a one-off and happens quite frequently.
• Consider the role that the state plays in allowing opportunities for either form of abuse to occur.
