Foundations of Sport Management
Revenue generated from NCAA sports is concentrated among a small number of schools. Just 65 schools out of 2,078 in the NCAA (less than 3%) were responsible for $7.6 billion in revenue in 2018. Thats more than half of all college sports revenue (The Conversation, 4/19). Unfortunately, the majority of NCAA schools spend more than they earn and a large portion of that bill is being paid by the student body in the form of student fees. As a matter of fact, in 2014, students at 32 schools paid a combined $125.5 million in athletic fees, according to a Washington Post examination of financial records at 52 public universities in the Power Five, the five wealthiest conferences in college sports.
There are many arguments for and against students footing the bill for athletics, especially at the few schools that are operating in the black (revenue is covering expenses). Please make an argument for or against charging student fees to fund athletics at schools operating in the black. If you are pro fee you are arguing why schools should be able to charge student fees. If you are anti-fee youre against schools charging student fees.
Please make your argument in 500 words or less (12 font, double spaced) and use articles or references to backup your argument.
