Meet sweet Claire. 

When I worked as a Cystic Fibrosis educator for a specialty pharmacy, Claire was one of my patients. 

Claire has since, passed away, but her legacy lives on as I use her videos to educate so many graduate nurses/nursing students on the patient perspective. 

Since we’re discussing sensory this week, I wanted to share a video Claire made sharing her experience of being in a coma in the ICU. As an ICU nurse, I know that patient’s in a coma are still able to perceive any stimuli, however I admittedly get caught up sometimes in the hustle bustle of the job and for lack of a better word…forget. I feel so blessed to have been able to care for Claire and to have watched this video as I have carried her experience into my practice and I think about her EVERY time I care about an intubated patient who may not be able to communicate.
