-
You MUST quote Levine, preferably in every paragraph. Use short quotations, ranging from half a sentence to two or three sentences. Do not summarize or explain the quote, but you may explain why you are using it, and how it supports your argument. Whenever you use his words, give him credit. If you are copying his words exactly, use quotation marks. If you are summarizing or paraphrasing, do not use quotation marks. In both cases, give Levine’s name.
-
This is a comparison/contrast paper. Your job is to make a choice based on the standards Levine lays out in Chapter 2. Spend your time explaining how one public figure better meets the standards of trust, authority, and likability found in the book than the other public figure.
-
Structure your paper around Levine’s standards. In other words, if you were talking about fruit, I’d want a paragraph about the taste of both, and one about the color of both, and so on. Do NOT spend the first half of the paper discussing one public figure, then the other half discussing the other one. Don’t write two mini-papers. Discuss BOTH people at once, in every paragraph.
-
This paper will be typed, with 1 margins, a 12 font size, and double spaced. It will follow standard essay format: an introduction, a thesis at the end of that introduction, body paragraphs that explain and support that thesis, and a conclusion that moves the conversation forward.
-
You must use at least THREE additional sources, and you MUST give them credit. All you have to say is According to and give the source. These outside sources should give us information about these public figures. They can be videos, public performances, interviews, things they’ve written or said, articles about them, or biographical information written about them by others.
-
You get to pick the public figures, but they MUST be real people. That is, no Batman v. Superman or other fictional character comparisons. There is no time limit on the people you use (historical figures are okay).
-
You can pick two people in similar roles (two actors or politicians or athletes) but you do not have to. The only requirement is that they are real people and are public figures (that is, people in the public eye).
