 Follow the instruction and write an essay in response to the prompt. This is meant to be a multi-paragraph essay with a thesis statement, introduction, body, analysis and conclusion.   400-600 words or 1 1/2 to 2 pages.

Prompt: People often think of science as binary and different people have different ideas about what is “right or wrong” and “fact or politics”. There are many examples in our culture (and maybe even in our own lives) where we accept the evidence presented by scientists for one issue, but not for another. We may choose to listen to the recommendations of a scientific agency for one health concern but not another (such as believing the CDC and not buying lettuce during an E. coli outbreak, while not believing our doctors and opting out of vaccines or, more currently, wearing a mask against Covid-19, but not believing in flu shots).

Provide some explanation for how or why a person can hold such contrasting views, using a specific example of one of these types of contradictions. To support your hypothesis you might look more deeply at the Pew Center survey or similar research. Feel free to choose your own contrasting view topic, but a few possibilities are: trust in NASA for space travel but not climate change; trust in NOAA for weather, but not climate change.
