B. Solo works:
Works for solo instruments do not use the basso continuo. These three works employ just one instrument. The harpsichord and the organ by nature of being keyboard instruments are capable of very complex polyphony. Notice how Bach is able to take the violin from being primarily a monophonic instrument of melody to one that implies polyphony—the illusion of multiple voices.
