It is a challenging read, so please give yourself plenty of time to work on the assignment.
Your essay will begin with an introductory paragraph discussing the scope and context of the article. This means a brief explanation of the time frame and subject area of the article. Write a sentence or two about the author and her credentials.
There are three main sections of Thompson’s article: “Mass Incarceration and the Origins of the Urban Crisis,” “Mass Incarceration and the Decline of the American Labor Movement,” and “Mass Incarceration and the Rise of the Right in Postwar America.”
Your essay will contain one paragraph on each of these sections, explaining Thompson’s argument in your own words.
You will then write one to two paragraphs analyzing the other two sources uploaded in light of Thompson’s argument. Do the sources you chose compliment or detract from Thompson’s argument?
The essay will end with one to two paragraphs reflecting on how the article did or did not influence your understanding of current events and issues in the United States.
The paper should have a title, but no title page is needed.
