The ancient histories of my ancestors have become the foundation of my journey. Its because of their sacrifices Ive been able to become the first undergraduate college graduate and greek lettered sorority member. Inside of me with each beat of my heart, its their stories that fuels it. Which has guided me to further advance my knowledge for the advancement of further generations I will come to birth. The University of Baltimore offers the perfect opportunity for me to flourish into becoming a states attorney.
When I arrived in Baltimore, Maryland it was completely foreign to me. Facing the challenges of being in a new area, no friends and family in site, and of course adjusting to now being the girl with an accent, I relied on my religion. Day by Day the challenges increased and my prayers ultimately made my faith strong. At times the challenges and the loneliness would seem so much that I questioned if I would ever finish. In my own self – reflections I was already two years behind those I had graduated with in high school.
Soon those doubts would rest in the back of my mind as moments and memories began to fill them. Joining my sisterhood of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. took away my loneliness or by being actively involved in my community service outreach at Tench Tilghman from my The National Council of Negro Women organization made me apart of a new family. Everywhere I went it was a new adventure. At the end of my journey at Morgan State University I knew I had made the right choice. Not only did I gain friends for a lifetime but I also gained mentors that left impressions on my life that will forever be imprinted.
In totality when I first came to this area I was a stranger. Now its my second home. It will bring great abundance in my heart to continue my educational path in Baltimore, Maryland. The only way I may do that is through The University of Baltimore. At the moment I am applying for a Masters in Criminal Justice but its also my path, a year from now to enroll in the School of Law program at the University of Baltimore. In regards to Courts and Laws I would like to be well versed in my knowledge. I wanted to gain an education that I can always rely on. Since I was a babe my faith in my education has always been true.
I am a descendant of those enslaved, their children that sharecropped and their offsprings that sought greater. When I was a child I dreamed of going to college and graduating. Now that I am a young adult I no longer dream, I envision and pursue. What I am sure of is that the vision of me becoming an associate justice for the state of South Carolina is still my destination. It would be my honor to be able to do that based upon the education I receive from this school.
