Discuss the following observation regarding the value of applying modern airborne remote sensing technologies to historic maps, plats, and other spatial documents while conducting archaeological research and discovery.

"….the primary value of a GIS in archaeological research is the ability to examine the relationship between multiple data layers. When registered in a common grid system, diverse data sets, including those from airborne remote sensing and near surface geophysics, may be compared and analyzed. Supplementary data, such as those from historic maps, plats, and other spatial documents, may be overlaid with the raster imagery. Other types of data may also be overlaid in vector format…”1
