For the first step in this project, you will be selecting a topic that will you will research for your paper. Select a topic that you are comfortable and engaged with, and for which you are willing to perform data collection.The topic is relatively open and there are different ways to perform your own data collection. A good way to start a project like this is to ask whether there is an issue in your community which needs more study.
You have some freedom in choosing a topic that interests you, as well as drafting an approach that you feel comfortable using for research. For example, some people might feel more comfortable developing a research topic that involves interviewing people. Others might want to distribute surveys for a more quantitative approach, while others might wish to focus their efforts on archival documents. The point is to find a topic that you will enjoy researching.
Your topic choice should be about a paragraph in length (100-200 words). Indicate first what you want to study and additionally, why this is an interesting or important topic. Remember to proofread your topic before submitting it.
Your instructor will give you feedback on your topic within three days, so please check back frequently. Please look at the topics that your classmates have placed in the discussion forum and select a different topic to avoid duplicates.
