Mandatory minimum sentencing

CJBS 300.597  Summer 2020  Research Position Paper Assignment    Due August 7, 2020

Select one of the topics from the list of topics below.  Begin the assignment by discussing the background/history of your selected topic (1 page).  Then proceed to discuss in detail each side/position of the issue (3-4 pages; 1.5-2 pages per side).  Lastly, select which position you support and explain in detail why you support that position (1 page).  Students are required to substantially use at least four outside academic sources (not including the Walker textbook) for the assignment.  For the background and position sections, students must back up their statements with facts/evidence.

Papers should be no longer than 7 pages.  Students are limited to using four direct quotes (two quotes up to 40 words, two quotes up to 60 words) for the assignment.  Students are required to cite sources in the body of the paper and include a works cited page.  Papers must adhere to the APA Guidelines and must be typed (double spaced) in 12 point Times Roman font with one-inch borders on all sides.  Handwritten assignments will not be accepted.  Plagiarism will not be tolerated.  Anyone who plagiarizes will receive a 0 on the assignment. 

Late Papers Five points will be deducted for each day the assignment is late.
