EDTR 240 – Writing Assignment #1 – Analyzing Existing Assessment Questions or Exercises
Select a chapter* out of an elementary or middle school textbook that has assessment questions or exercises at the end. The grade, content area and topic of study are entirely up to you. For this 85-point writing assignment, analyze the assessment questions or exercises by addressing the following:
Identify the chapter’s learning targets and determine whether the assessment questions or exercises are an appropriate match to the targets. Explain why or why not. (25 points)
Identify the strengths and limitations of the assessment questions or exercises with respect to whether the targets are directly or indirectly measured. (25 points)
Determine whether the information from the assessment questions or exercises would probably provide valid and reliable evidence of a student’s master of the chapter’s learning targets. (15 points)
Essentially I am asking you to look at the questions/exercises at the end of a chapter and determine if they are effective and make sense in terms of the stated learning goals.
Your assignment should be 300-500 words (the equivalent of 1-2 pages) and have no grammar or spelling errors. (15 points)
Please include/attach a copy of the chapter or unit of study. (5 points)
