Over the past eight weeks in the Health Care Policy Course within the Master Nurse Practitioner (MNP) program at MRU, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of the complex landscape of healthcare, emphasizing policy development, delivery systems, and the evolving role of advanced practice nurses. The coursework has deepened my awareness of how policies influence healthcare access, quality, and cost. Exploring various delivery models, including patient-centered care and value-based reimbursement, has enhanced my ability to navigate and advocate within the healthcare system. This foundational knowledge supports my growth as an advanced practice nurse, preparing me to influence policy and improve patient outcomes effectively.

One significant aspect of our studies has been the application of Middle Range Theories in nursing practice. These theories serve as a bridge between grand theories and empirical research, providing practical frameworks to guide clinical decision-making. For example, the Theory of Comfort by Kolcaba emphasizes holistic patient comfort, influencing nursing interventions aimed at alleviating physical, emotional, and environmental discomforts. By integrating such theories, practitioners can craft individualized care plans that address specific patient needs, thereby optimizing outcomes. Furthermore, Middle Range Theories foster evidence-based practice; they help translate research findings into real-world clinical applications, ensuring that care strategies are both scientifically sound and contextually relevant. Mentorship has played a pivotal role in shaping my understanding and confidence throughout this course. Mentors have also inspired me to pursue leadership roles beyond clinical practice, emphasizing the importance of advocacy and policy engagement in advancing nursing practice. Support from experienced mentors has fostered my confidence in making informed decisions and advocating for equitable healthcare policies, reinforcing the importance of lifelong learning in this profession. In conclusion, the Health Care Policy Course has significantly contributed to my growth as an advanced practice nurse by enhancing my understanding of healthcare systems, empowering me to apply Middle Range Theories in practice, and highlighting the importance of mentorship.
