Prior to the clinical field experience, review the requirements of all clinical field experiences for this course. Create a document to share with your mentor teacher detailing these requirements and what is being requested of the mentor teacher. This document should include the scheduling required to complete all assignments.

Creating a class profile that includes student demographic information, as well as assessment and developmental data can help with planning learning experiences that are appropriate for all students in the classroom. This can be used to determine appropriate differentiation and student groups for instruction.

Allocate at least 5 hours in the field to support this field experience.

Observe the students in your field experience classroom. Following your observation, discuss with your mentor teacher the development of the students and how that affects instructional planning, specifically in the areas of ELA, social studies, and the arts. Using the “Class Profile and Student Grouping" template, collaborate with your mentor teacher to create a detailed class profile for the students based on your observations and classroom data provided by your mentor teacher. Ensure pseudonyms are used to maintain student confidentiality.

Once you have created the class profile, work with your mentor to use the information collected to form small groups. Consider classroom and student factors when creating your groups, as well as how intentionally formed groups will meet student needs and promote positive outcomes for all students.

Below the class profile and your groupings, write 250-500 word reflection including the following:

• Summary of the observations and information obtained from your mentor teacher that justify the data included on the class profile.
• How this class profile will assist in planning instruction for the students in your field experience classroom
• Rationale for the formation of your small groups. What classroom and student factors did you consider when creating your groups?
• How you will apply what you have learned about collecting and compiling observational data in your future professional practice.

Use any remaining field experience hours to assist the mentor teacher in providing instruction and support to the class.
