Common Data Model (CDM): Creation, Presentation, and Discussion
The final project for this course will be utilized for both the assignment submission and as a discussion board post.
Final Project Assignment:
The Final Project Assignment submission must include:
• The 2-tab excel spreadsheet containing your CDM’s data dictionary and resulting dataset.
• The PowerPoint Presentation of your CDM.
• See information and rubrics below for more details.
The Final Project Discussion Board must include:
• Your PowerPoint CDM presentation.
• One professional and thoughtful response to another student’s posted presentation.

CDM Creation
• Create a 2-tab excel spreadsheet Common Data Model
o Tab 1 = Data Dictionary: This will be the data dictionary for your imaginary CDM.
Include at least 15 variables.
At least five (5) variables in the CDM must be a terminology, classification, or standard dataset that we have covered in this course.
Other variables could include demographic variables, identification variables, language variables, and/or more terminology, classification or standard dataset variables that were covered in the course.
The CDM must include, at a minimum, columns for:
• Variable name
• Variable description
• Variable format
o Tab 2 = Dataset: This will be an imaginary dataset that would be generated by your CDM variables
There must be at least 10 unique rows of data in this resulting dataset.
Data must conform to the variable requirements from your data dictionary (Tab 1) and to the format requirement for any standard terminology, classification, or standard dataset.

Thinking (40%) Demonstrates a high degree of critical thinking; good responses supported by citations and/or examples. Demonstrates critical thinking; includes responses with some citations/examples. Limited demonstration of critical thinking; limited responses. Poor responses with no examples.
Writing (20%) Proper language, grammar, and spelling used at all times; responses are consistently clear, concise, and compelling. Proper language with minimal errors in spelling, or grammar; responses are clear and concise. Some problems with both the use of proper language, spelling, or grammar; responses are unclear and/or not concise. Improper language, grammar, and spelling; responses are not clear, not concise, and not compelling.
Timeliness 5% per day late penalty, submissions are not allowed after term grades due
CDM Presentation
• Create a PowerPoint presentation to introduce and explain your CDM.
o This presentation will need to be voice recorded.
o This presentation will be submitted in two ways:
As a part of the Final Project Assignment submission, due by 11:59pm ET on Friday.
As a posting on the Final Project Presentation Discussion Board, due by 11:59pm ET on Friday.
• This Your presentation will need to include at minimum:
o Introduce your CDM and explain why it is a necessary CDM. (What is the purpose of the CDM?)
o Demonstrate your CDM variables (i.e.: the excel spreadsheet and resulting dataset) and explain why you decided to include the variables that you did.
o Explain why this CDM will improve healthcare going forward.
Final Project Discussion Board Post:
Submit your CDM PowerPoint Presentation to the Week 8 Discussion Post in Blackboard by 11:59pm ET on Friday.
• Respond to one other student’s presentation, by 11:59pm ET on Sunday.
o Your response must include the following:
Compare and contrast the initial poster’s CDM with the CDM that you created.
Professionally suggest at least one additional variable or variable change to the poster’s CDM model and justification for your suggestion(s).
Include and cite in correct APA format information from one additional professional citation that appropriately applies to your response post.
