Post a brief analysis of what you learned from this unit’s assigned readings on the topic of gender and physical health
Part 1: Post a brief analysis of what you learned from this unit’s assigned readings on the topic of gender and physical health (we will be covering mental health in Part 2). Include at least 1 takeaway about the intersection of gender and physical health. Consider and discuss both points through your unique point of view. Remember to cite the source of your information and reference it at the end of your post as well.
Part 2: In this report back activity, create 3-5 open-ended questions about gender and mental health. Use information from Unit 6 readings to develop your questions.
Ask 3-5 people (e.g., close friends, family members, or coworkers) to respond to your questions and provide their perspectives on mental health and gender. Record their responses to the questions below. Do not include actual first names or other identifiers—use numbers or pseudonyms. Do provide their ages or age range (e.g., 30s, late 20s, 40s, 50s, etc.) and gender. Present your volunteers’ responses in a table or chart or any other organized format that suits you.
Summarize major themes in your volunteers’ responses and explain: Which responses surprised you or did you find interesting? Were beliefs about gender and mental health accurate or inaccurate or mixed? Were any of your volunteers’ responses reflective of gender bias or stereotypes? Explain. Lastly, how could this data be useful to a clinician who works with people with intersectional identities?
Support your interpretations and conclusions with in-text citations from Unit 6 assigned sources and/or other credible sources.
Part 3: Scroll down to the subsection titled Mental Health Disparities in your assigned Nature article , reviewing both it and the section after it titled Protective Factors and Well-Being. Identify one disparity factor that surprised you or that you’d like to further discuss and expand upon it, asking and answering your own questions about it.
Then, offer your public policy suggestion(s) for increasing mitigating protective factors (i.e., increasing facilitative coping strategies, recognizing intersectional oppression, cultivating spirituality and hope, forming a supportive TNB community, increasing family support, and inspiring gender euphoria).
Peer Engagement
Remember to circle back and substantively respond to two classmates by the due date specified in the syllabus and course calendar. Your peer engagement posts must go beyond summarizing and praising. To aid you in this endeavor, incorporate one or more of the following lines of thinking in your peer engagement posts, ensuring both a hearty, meaningful conversation and that your work meets criteria for substance and depth:
· Consider the takeaway your peer described in their Part 1 and offer your thoughts on why that concept is important and ground that takeaway in your own observations.
· Compare/contrast the results of your report back activity with that of your peer. Offer some insights based on that compare/contrast and how you might use this information moving forward.
· Combine your thoughts, takeaways, and proposed solutions from Part 3 and synthesize them with that of your peer to draw some broad conclusions and considerations.
