BUS 7100 – Assignment 7: Develop the Literature Review and Problem Statement
Module Introduction
Welcome to Module 7: Literature Review and Problem Statement Draft.
This is it! During this lesson, you will work on a draft of your Signature Assignment, which you have been building on during this course.
Your literature review base is a brief review of the articles you have located. Should this topic transition into your dissertation research topic of interest, then this brief review of the literature will eventually be incorporated into Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 of your dissertation research document. The literature review base should not be a list of one article summary after another. Rather, use learnings and instructor feedback from prior modules to present an integrated critical analysis and synthesis of credible literature pertinent to the research area you have discovered.
Writing a Literature Review
In this module, you will organize all your course resources into a well-flowing literature review followed by the problem statement.
In modules 1 and 2, you explored the library and identified the topic. Additional sources were added each week as you learned about the topic and the research conducted to date. You not only examined individual articles but created a synthesis matrix that allowed you to identify themes/subtopics in the knowledge base. From this, you identified a gap in the literature that led to the problem statement and started a narrative review.
This week, you will create a draft of your review to be used in your CMP course, followed by your dissertation sequence.
A literature review provides context for the dissertation study by critically analyzing and synthesizing the prominent literature around the research topic. These works address the main ideas around your research topic that you have already located in the past six weeks. These ideas may involve areas of controversy and/or perhaps reveal areas of incomplete knowledge that arise from your synthesis.
