According to the CST 101 video, family is so important because that’s where we first learned to love. Family is also our first experience with communication. Marriage and family are both important to our society. That’s what gives society life. Without marriage and family, society wouldn’t be as it should be, which is full of love and compassion. Marriage and family are related to wider community by allowing people to communicate with each other. In a community, it’s important to be engaged instead of just standing to the side. Marriage and family help bring everyone closer. Subsidiarity is allowing different levels of society to do things on their own and do their own job. When these institutions can’t do their job they can get help from larger institutions, but they won’t let people come in from the outside to make decisions for them. Subsidiarity relates to the question of how we should help each other by different levels being able to be there for each other and help them out with whatever they need. By this we mean neighbors stepping in and helping, rather than experts coming from the outside and taking over.
According to the Handbook, gender theory is an idea that aims to advance a free approach to sexuality related issues as well as family and marriage. The center of the gender theory is the difference between sex and gender. The gender theory defines the term “sex” as what the person is biologically or bodily. “Gender” is how the role of men and women is defined socially. Gender is able to change. According to the gender theory everyone should have the chance to choose their own gender. Some positive aspects of gender theory is it focuses on the private aspect of human sexuality. According to the handbook, paragraph 152 on page 61 states, “The scientific analysis of this reality reveals that human sexuality, in addition to being rooted in the body, must also be personalized through psychological identification with one’s own sex and through approprate interpersonal relations, beginning with one’s relationship with his or her parents”. This shows that, a person’s sexuality should not only be within the body, but should also be unique to how a person identifies themselves psychologically as well as through relationships. Another positive aspect of gender theory is how it points out that some roles of a man or woman socially throughout the years is normal and how this has impacted the way society sees women in a bad way. Some negative aspects of gender theory is it contradicts the Bible, because God created everyone in His image, and according to the gender theory you’re able to change your gender, which goes against the Bible. Another negative aspect is it contradicts morality. One way the gender theory contradicts morality is how people in homosexual relationships is allowed to get married, but because they lack in sexual difference they cannot start a family.
According to the CDSC, the objective dimensions of work is the amount of resources, activities, and technologies used by people to produce things. The subjective dimensions of work is the actual activity of a person that’s capable of performing tasks that’s part of their work and their own purpose. The subjective dimensions of work takes more priority than the objective dimensions of work, because the work’s quality and value depends on the person’s activity. The CDSC also talks about the relationship between labor and capital. Capital is the resources itself that’s used by the humans, while labor is the actual work put in by the person. Labor takes priority over capital. In paragraph 277 of the CDSC it states, “Labour has an intrinsic priority over capital. ‘This principle directly concerns the process of production: in this process labour is always a primary efficient cause, while capital, the whole collection of means of production, remains a mere instrument or instrumental cause. This principle is an evident truth that emerges from the whole of man’s historical experience’ [593]”. This shows that, labor is what actually gets things done. The capital which is the resource doesn’t do anything itself. Although labor takes priority over capital, they both need each other in order for everything to work well. People can’t work as well without their resources, and resources won’t be used without the person. Capital and labor complement each other.
