Geopolitical and Phenomenological Factors

Geopolitical and phenomenological factors exert a significant influence on the context of population or community assessments and interventions. Geopolitical aspects encompass the political, economic, and social structures that shape a particular geographic region, while phenomenological factors pertain to the subjective experiences and perceptions of individuals within that community. Recognizing and understanding these factors is vital for conducting a comprehensive assessment and developing effective interventions. “Geopolitical determinants affect social determinants of health. Social determinants include poverty, unemployment, urbanization, industrialization, and lack of green spaces in urban areas and all of these are influenced by geopolitical determinants” (Persaud et.al., 2018). Geopolitical factors can contribute to health disparities, influence access to healthcare, and affect resource allocation within a population or community. Political policies, economic conditions, and social dynamics can impact the availability and affordability of healthcare services. Considering these geopolitical factors is crucial to grasp the unique challenges and opportunities for health promotion within the community. Phenomenological factors focus on the cultural beliefs, values, traditions, social networks, and personal experiences that shape individuals’ perceptions of health and well-being. These factors play a role in shaping health-seeking behaviors, attitudes toward healthcare, and acceptance of interventions. Acknowledging and respecting the phenomenological aspects of the community is essential for developing culturally sensitive and effective interventions.
The nursing process provides a systematic framework for identifying health issues and designing appropriate interventions, regardless of whether they are local or global in nature. “The nursing process is a systematic problem-solving approach used to identify, prevent, and treat actual or potential health problems and promote wellness. It has five steps; Assessment, Diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation” (Semachew, 2018). During the assessment phase, community health nurses collect data to understand the community’s health status, demographics, cultural factors, and environmental influences. This information helps identify potential health issues. Based on the assessment, nurses formulate nursing diagnoses, identifying actual or potential health problems within the community. In the planning phase, nurses collaborate with stakeholders to develop an intervention plan that addresses the identified health issues. The plan is tailored to the community’s needs and considers available resources and cultural context. In the implementation phase, nurses put the plan into action, delivering interventions such as health education programs, screenings, referrals, and community outreach. Finally, the evaluation phase assesses the effectiveness of the interventions and guides improvements for future interventions.
