Research Poster Proposal and Bibliography (topics at end of this document)
Research Poster Proposal and Bibliography (topics at end of this document)
Here you will begin to work on your chosen research topic for the course. The chosen topic must relate to the course material and can be inspired by any of our readings. Students are encouraged to discuss their potential topic with their instructor before beginning this assignment. *Remember my office hours.
The purpose: to gain feedback and clarity before you embark on your Final Research Paper. It is expected that your topic will remain the same for both assignments, however, these assignments will also potentially expand or contract your focus throughout the process. This is your opportunity to think creatively, through images and with minimal text to create what is called an “infographic poster”
Part 1 – The Bibliography:
Consult with your instructor on your chosen topic. Head to the virtual or physical university library and begin your research, reading, and preliminary note-taking
Create a bibliography in the Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition pertaining to your research. It must list a min of (not including your textbook):
5 Books or ebooks (not including your course books)
3 Academic Articles,
2 Academic Websites
*Sources such as Encyclopedias, Wikipedia, Britannia, Encarta, or any other online dictionaries or open sourced resources are not allowed. This includes sites such as, but not limited to: smart history, artsy, artstory, youtube, reddit or other social media. Videos and documentaries are not permitted.

Part 2 – The Poster, a Visual Proposal
You will complete this poster as a visual/creative proposal for your research essay- to start to explore your essay topic with preliminary research before you begin the larger project.
This also allows me to approve your topic and give you valuable feedback on your thesis, abstract, and direction of your research. It is expected that your topic will remain the same for the final essay unless I have instructed otherwise. However, I acknowledge that after your poster and during your research and writing, your topic might expand or contract. This is your opportunity to think creatively, through images and with minimal text to create what is called an “infographic proposal poster”
Instructions:
You will produce one digital infographic poster. When complete save as a pdf and upload to the appropriate assignment folder with the bibliography on Nexus.
Your poster must include:
-Your topic chosen and “working title” in italics (that is more creative than the topic)
-Key Words referencing your potential research and topic (min of 6)
-A Thesis statement in italics if it is within your abstract, or visible on your poster in a design savvy way.
-An Abstract of no more than 300 words about your topic proposed with citations as this should have minimal research, if no research or citations, this will reflect in your grade.
-A minimum of 3 images or more representing your topic or items researched (properly cited)
-The expressive format can be a collage, or series of images that suit your topic, I am not prescribing the look of your poster.
*Tip do not include more text than required.
-All of your paraphrased researched information and images must be cited. Provide an image/reference list either on the poster or on the back of the poster (Combine pdf files in adobe if need be) If you do not submit a citation reference list and bibliography you will be plagiarizing.
*Tip: try and balance negative with positive space, make it easy and pleasing to the eye.
Here is a list of suggested programs to create your digital poster, but I am not an expert on digital creative programs, so I leave the selection of programs up to you.

-Canva
