Theory Application
Theory Application Assessment: 30 point assessment The theory application assessment evaluates the participant’s understanding of one educational theorist’s philosophies and how they would apply those philosophies to the classroom. For this assessment, participants will refer to the following: ● PACE I and Spring Seminar Information: ○ Piaget ○ Erikson ○ Kohlberg & Gilligan ○ Gardner ● Additional Foundational Educational Theorists ○ Slideshow ○ Educational Theorists Summaries ○ Any theorist that has been taught / discussed in PACE Directions for the assessment (two parts): Part 1: Participants will write a one-page paper explaining how their UbD unit plan includes practices supported by the educational theories of one theorist introduced in PACE II. The paper should address: ● A description of at least 3 activities from your UbD unit plan (use six facets and T & OE template information) that would be endorsed by one of the educational theorists. ● A brief explanation about why those activities would be endorsed by the theorist. The paper should meet the following criteria: ● Standard English grammar and conventions ● One page ● Double – spaced ● 12 point Times New Roman font ● One-inch margins Part 2. In addition to the paper, participants will create a graphic representation of a classroom endorsed by ANY educational theorist (the same as Part 1 or a different theorist) by following the directions below: Design a classroom to fit the philosophy of the educational theorist you researched. To complete this activity, you may use any (or a combination) of the following: ● Google Draw / Google Slides / PowerPoint ● Draw your diagram by hand and upload a picture of your drawing ● Any drawing software / web-based program with which you are familiar Notes: ● The method you use is not as important as the components you include and the rationale you provide for the design. (As usual, you will submit your drawing as a PDF.) ● Your classroom should be designed based generally on your chosen theorist’s perspective, not simply based on the UbD unit you are creating. ● Pretend money and physical limitations are no object! Be creative! Essentials: ● Title your classroom based on the theorist you choose. (May be different from Part 1 Theorist) ● Include at least 6 components of the classroom physical layout and resources. ● Label each classroom component based on theory. Example: Dewey’s High School English Classroom (created with Google Draw) This assessment will be graded according to the Theory Application Rubric, seen below.
