Objectives
The goals of this assignment are:
Introduce your topic.
Explain your purpose.
- Persuade your audience about your topic using an argument and persuasive strategies to convince and change your audience’s attitudes, beliefs, or opinions about your topic using the problem and solution format
- Utilize basic speech skills in an effective manner.
- Utilize presentational/delivery skills.
- Foster familiarity with your topic and contribute to the development of a positive class culture.
- Deliverables
- Speech Outline & Speech Manuscript: Speaking Persuasive Speech Outline and Manuscript. You will develop a speaking “Informative” speech outline/manuscript. This is an educational and objective speech. Make sure that there is a need for your information, always think of your audience at the center of your message. The overall goal is for your audience to learn from your speech so that they may apply the information in the future, if they choose to. The guiding principle for all speeches is to never communicate which harm but rather than which stand to benefit your audience. You may utilize the template provided at the end of this syllabus to prepare your final polished outlines or manuscript. Outlines or Manuscripts should include the following elements: thesis statement, introduction, body, conclusion, clear main points, clear sub points, transition, three forms of citation (in-text, oral, and full bibliographic references). You may use the research packet available or conduct your own independent research, however, all sources must be academic and scholarly. My evaluation of this speech will focus on arrangement, organization, use of sources, appropriate citations, topic appropriate to objective of assignment, and general requirements such as 12 font, double space, Times New Roman, 7-10-page requirement (including work cited page), and on-time submission.
Self-Reflection Essay. This essay does not require research and should be from 1-2 pages in length. You will be required to include terminology from the assigned text to evaluate and explain how you think you performed in your speech. Consider reviewing Chapter 7 on “Organizing and Outlining” to evaluate your speech arrangement/structure, and Chapter 14 “Informative Speaking” to evaluate and reflect on your topic, speech and experience.

Directions: The following is a 7 Step Process for Developing a “Persuasive” Speech Outline, Manuscript and Self-Reflection.
Identify and select an argumentative persuasive speech topic for your speech.
- Keep your audience in mind while developing your speech outline and manuscript. Ensure that there is a need for your information and that the overall goal is to persuade your audience about the chosen topic. The argument developed for this speech should be evidence-based. The overall goal for you in this speech to persuade your audience to action or change.
Use the most appropriate textbook sample templates or create your own to prepare your polished speech outline or manuscript.
