English 203 ePortfolio and Longitudinal Reflection Prompt
English 203 ePortfolio and Longitudinal Reflection Prompt Purpose Your English 203 electronic portfolio (ePortfolio) is a digital space in which you will collect, organize, and reflect upon your writing in First-Year Composition classes at NIU, demonstrating the writing skills you’ve developed and showcasing the best work you’ve produced. The ePortfolio asks you to give thought to your own academic identity and to reflect upon your growth as a writer. Organization You will create your ePortfolio in Blackboard. Your ePortfolio will contain the five webpages described below. Home Your “Home” page will set the tone for your portfolio. On this page you will write a paragraph that introduces yourself and directs your readers to the items or “artifacts” in your portfolio. You may wish to include a picture. This page is your opportunity to let readers know something about who you are as a student and a future professional. Analysis (Video game essay) Your “Analysis” page will link to a document that demonstrates your analytical skills. On this page you will also write a one-paragraph reflection that discusses how the piece succeeds as an analysis. This document should come from either ENGL 103 or ENGL 203. Writing with Sources (Research Essay) Your “Writing with Sources” page will link to a document, such as a research paper or interview, that demonstrates your ability to work with outside sources. On this page you will also write a one-paragraph reflection that discusses how the piece successfully incorporates the voices of other writers. This document must come from ENGL 203. Audience & Genre (Expertise Essay) Your “Audience & Genre” page will link to a document that you consider best demonstrates the relationship between audience, form, and content. On this page you will also write a one-paragraph reflection that discusses how the piece reflects this relationship. This document should come from either ENGL 103 or ENGL 203. Longitudinal Reflection Your “Longitudinal Reflection” page will link to your Longitudinal Reflection (see below). This document must come from ENGL 203. You may include other artifacts in your ePortfolio (drafts, peer review feedback, exercises, pictures, etc.), but additional materials are not required. Be sure that your “Home” page clearly identifies what these artifacts are. Longitudinal Reflection Your longitudinal reflection will be an essay of 2 pages in which you look back at your work in First-Year Composition and examine your growth as a writer. Consider how your writing has evolved, what strategies and techniques you have learned, and how your perceptions of writing and of your identity as a writer have changed over the course of the semester. Your longitudinal reflection should provide specific examples from your portfolio or detailed description of intangible elements (such as writing processes) as evidence for claims you make about your writing. In addition, your reflection should describe specific ways in which the work you have done in this class has informed and been informed by work you have done in your other classes and experiences outside school. Please include relevant points related to this course being online. How has the online experience differed from other classroom experiences you have had? Finally, your reflection should describe the ways your writing has evolved not only during this semester but since the beginning of ENGL103 (or the last writing intensive course you took if you did not take ENGL 103).
