Theory Application Paper #2 Option A Guidelines (CJS-350) Professor: Dr. A. Timmer Overview of the Paper #2 The Option A of the paper #1 includes your critical analysis of an important social issue in society (the list of possible social issues is below). You will need to provide an explanation for why the topic you picked is important and what literature says about your issue; apply at least one theory to explain this social issue (a different theory than you applied in paper #1); and develop policy implications based on the theory you applied. This paper must be at least 3 pages (without references). Formatting: 12p font, double-spaced, 1-inch margins, APA-style citations, and reference list. You can create your own paper title, but no separate title page needed. Use structure headings from below. Structure of the Paper 1. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE TOPIC (0.5-1 page) Discuss your social issue and explain why people should care about it. This needs to be a different issue than the one you focused on in your first paper. Support your response by at least TWO different sources such as research articles, summaries, books, newspaper articles, blogs, twitter posts, Tik Tok videos and other sources showing the importance of your social issue in society. Make sure to discuss who gets affected by your social issue and if relevant, the role of social inequality in understanding this social problem. Also, elaborate on what literature says about the causes of your social issue. You can cite research articles or other writing sources of your choice. 2. THEORY APPLICATION (1-1.5 pages) You will need to pick one theory we covered in class and use the concepts and ideas of this theory to explain your social issue. Note, you can also apply more than one theory. The theory/theories you apply in this paper must be different than the theory you applied in your first paper. You will need to make sure you cite properly the sources discussing these theories such as your textbook and research articles we covered in class. Make sure you cite at least TWO course readings (i.e., textbook and required/recommended articles). Please, use specific concepts developed by the theory to explain the social problem of your choice. 3. POLICY IMPLICATIONS (0.5-1 page) You will need to provide possible solutions for your social issue based on the theory you applied. What are some policy recommendations to resolve your social issue? How can your recommendations help? How are these policy recommendations related to the theory you applied? 4. SUMMARY (a paragraph) Provide a brief summary of what you discussed in your paper in a clear and concise way. 5.
