c) Introduction. Your introduction should be about 2-3 pages long and should include elements of your revised introduction from project 1. Specifically, your new introduction should include an opening general paragraph, 1-2 paragraphs introducing the link between relationship equity and relationship satisfaction, transition to the 2-3 paragraphs on the trait dimension that you measured, 1-2 paragraphs on how the dimension you chose to study should/may be relevant to relationship satisfaction, and a transition paragraph in which you state the purpose of your study and offer specific hypotheses that will be tested. Your introduction should contain at least four new references (in addition to the references that you cited in project 1); at least one of these new references must be from Susan Sprecher’s work on the association between relationship equity and satisfaction. The others may be to relevant articles that link your trait dimension to relationship equity or satisfaction, or they may be general references about equity theory. The introduction should be at least 6 paragraphs.
d) Method section. This should be detailed and include sections for participants, measures, and procedure. Your power analyses should be included in the participants section. You should make sure to include, verbatim, your critical manipulation (see recall instructions below). Include how the manipulation check was measured. The creation of your dependent variable, including the reliability of the composite variable, should be described in the method section. Information about your trait scale should also be included.
e) Results section. Start with a section entitled “Manipulation Check.” Test whether the underbenefiting recall and equity recall conditions significantly differed on the manipulation check using an independent-groups t-test (don’t forget to report the Ms and SDs for each condition!). If there is no difference, or the pattern is opposite of what you would expect (e.g., equity group reported feeling more distress), discuss that as a limitation in the discussion section. Next, report the results of your multiple regression analysis. First, report the model fit statistics (e.g., adjusted R2, model F, and significance level). As will be described in detail in lab, you will have three major statistical tests to report: the main effect for the equity recall independent variable, the main effect for the “other dimension” (whatever trait you chose to measure), and the interaction between equity recall and the other dimension. You will need to report, in APA style, the B coefficient, t-test, and probability level for each of these three tests. You should also report the means/SDs associated with the main effect for equity recall. Furthermore, you will need to report the results of your simple slopes analyses. Last, you will need to include and refer to a figure in which you plot the interaction (adhere to APA style).
f) Discussion section. Here you will discuss the substantive meaning of the analysis you reported. Were any of the main effects or interaction effects significant? If not, why do you think you did not obtain significant results? If you did obtain significant results, what did they mean? Are they consistent with past research on relationship equity and satisfaction? Conclude your discussion section with a “Limitations and Directions for Future Research” section (You may want to mention problems with the manipulation, your manipulation check, measurement of the trait scale or dv, and/or low power here).
g) References section, in APA style.
h) Figure and Figure caption, in APA style.
Your completed paper should be about 10-15 pages long, must be double-spaced, and typewritten in APA style.
