Other Question
Description Using PsycINFO, students will identify one empirical (i.e., not a literature review article, systematic review article, meta-analysis, or case study) research report in personality psychology from the past 3 years (i.e., since 2021) that is relevant to the student personally. Students will then summarize and critique the research report. The assignment should be roughly 2 – 3 full double-spaced pages of typed text (about 600 – 900 words). Please use that research article to answer the following questions: 01. Please describe how this research article is relevant to you, personally. Here are some questions for your consideration as you address this question: What kind of articles were you searching for, and why? Additionally, why did you select this specific article over other ones? How is this research article related to personality psychology? How is the research report related to ideas or concepts discussed in PSY 109? Importantly, avoid inappropriate self-disclosure of trauma or oversharing. 02. Why did the researchers conduct the study? In other words, what is the basic problem under investigation? How does this study relate to, and go beyond, past investigations of this problem? What questions do the researchers hope to answer with this research? 03. Did the researchers name a theory related to their problem? If so, describe the theory. 04. What were the researchers’ hypotheses? You must state these in your own words. 05. Describe the researchers’ sample (i.e., Who were the research participants and how many participants there? What age, race, and gender were they?). 06. How did the researchers conduct the study (briefly describe the method)? 07. How were the variables of interest manipulated and/or measured? Did the measures used adequately reflect the variables of interest? 08. What did the researchers find? Describe this in basic terms— summarize the results in such a way that your friends and family members would understand what the researchers found. Answering the following questions should ensure that you have adequately discussed the results: Did the researchers provide evidence that any independent variable manipulations were effective? Were the researchers’ original hypotheses supported by their observations? If not, look in the discussion section for how the researchers explain the findings that were obtained. 09. What implications do their results have (e.g., What do they say the results mean? How do the results affect their original theory and hypotheses? What new information does the study provide about the problem under investigation? What do the results mean for future research? What are the practical and theoretical implications of the study’s findings? Did the results contradict past research findings? If so, how do the researchers explain this discrepancy?)? 10. What criticisms do you have of this research? Do you have any criticism of their research sample or their sampling procedure? For example, do you think the researchers would find the same pattern of results if their sample of participants were much older? The participants in this study were college students. Would the researchers have found the same results had they used a non-college sample (e.g., adults who haven’t completed college)? What aspects of their research design and procedures did you think were helpful? What aspects of their research design and procedures did you think were unhelpful?
