Activity Assignment: Puzzle Building

Purpose of the Activity: The purpose of this activity is to give learners an introduction to the complexity of teaching in diverse classrooms.

The Activity: For this assignment, you will first need to complete the following activity:

Find a small puzzle (approximately 50 pieces);
Set a timer for 15 minutes;
Try and complete the puzzle within the time frame. Feel free to use the picture on the box cover as a guide.
Now, let’s do this activity a second time, this time however, try to complete the puzzle without referring to the picture on the cover of the box. If gifted at puzzles, try a different one than the first one this time.
You may use a friend to help you with the puzzle if you wish.

Assignment: Once you have completed the puzzle, write a three (3) page reflection on your thoughts to the following:

Share your personal experience with building the puzzle.
How might putting the puzzle together tie your classroom in terms of your students and other elements?
What is the significance of a time limit?
How might the use of a partner relate to teaching?
And finally, what might be the relationship between the box cover and your curriculum guides? Is it helpful or can it make things more confusing at times?
