Competency Statement: Unlike most competencies, much of the learning for this course will occur off the BrightSpace platform. Through internships within Criminal Justice and Social Service agencies, students will be given the opportunity to connect theory with practice and to acquire knowledge and skills directly related to previous competency material. Students will complete a minimum of 100 hours of field work. The primary objective of the course is to allow students to gain valuable experience in a professional setting. Further, the students should use that opportunity to reflect on the relationship between their field experience and what they have learned in all of their coursework throughout the curriculum. They will substantively connect the Criminal Justice Program Learning Outcomes to their field experiences.

Purpose of the Assessment
This assessment will connect all of your field hour experiences with program learning outcomes. Your final Field Hour Documentation Log will map your work to course outcomes and your research paper will connect current research literature to issues and topics you confronted in your field experience. Your final slideshow video presentation will represent a synthesis of your capstone experience as well as all concepts you have learned in program coursework.
Items Required for Submission
A final Field Hour Documentation Log that itemized a minimum of 100 hours completed, maps field experiences to Learning Outcomes and is signed by your field site supervisor
One 1250 word research paper (using 6 peer reviewed sources) that investigates an issue or topic you dealt with in your field hours.
The literature review will constitute ½ to ⅔’s of the paper (620-833 words)
Specific connection of the research presented in the literature review to your field experience will make up the remaining ⅓ to ½ of the paper (420-620 words)
A slideshow presentation with voiceover (10-15 mins long) describing the highlights of your field experience; your successes and challenges at the field sight and in meeting the goals of your work plan; and key points you learned in connecting your research to the real work applications of field work.
Step 1: Preparation Move all of your field hours logged in your own excel document into the Final Field Hour Documentation Log and map to relevant Learning Outcomes (2,3,4,6,7,8&9). Print the Final Log and have your field supervisor sign it. Scan the hard copy for submission.
Step 2: Review your feedback from Learning Outcome 5 and complete your research paper. Make sure to make ⅓ to ½ of it reflection and connection to your field experiences. Does the literature and research support or contradict what you saw in the field? How does/could this research inform the work at your field site?
Step 3: Create a slideshow video presentation summarizing your field experience and your research.
