How can you evaluate the credibility of a study? Consider how different research questions require different methodologies. In this Discussion, you will consider the factors that make a study credible.
To prepare:
Read the handouts and view the media on the uses for quantitative and qualitative research, focusing on the different types of questions they answer.
Consider which types of methods are used most often for your discipline, as well as why they are chosen.
Consider the methods used in the five research studies you read on your proposed dissertation topic.
Then, consider the points you use to determine whether a research study is valid. Keep in mind that both qualitative and quantitative research methods are valuable in education, and each answers different kinds of questions.

State the topic of your proposed dissertation. Provide an example of one quantitative question and one qualitative question you might use for your dissertation study. Explain which question you think is the best question to address your proposed dissertation topic.
Explain four key items you will use to evaluate the appropriateness and effectiveness of a research study, particularly in relation to your dissertation study. (The instructor will compile a list of the points shared for the class at the end of the module.)
