2) Select two (2) people who have not been previously used in the glossary and who have played significant roles in Louisiana history.
If you find that someone has already taken your Louisiana notables, select other people to write about.
3) Make sure that the selected people are mentioned in at least one of following three sources: our Jones textbook, course Moodle, or the 64 Parishes Encyclopedia (history, government, folk, music, art figures from Louisiana all work)
Do not select individuals from other sources.
4) The people selected do not have to been born in Louisiana but they do have to have played a key role in the state’s development.
Example: Andrew Jackson could be one of the people selected.
Note: Your entry should focus on the person’s contribution to Louisiana.
In the case of Jackson, one would not launch into a discussion of Indian removal (though an important to topic for U.S. History) but instead focus on his saving the city of New Orleans from the English (a significant point for Louisiana history).
5) Write a separate glossary entry for each of the two selected people.
Do not double up a single entry with two people.
6) Each glossary entry should include the name of the person, years (at least approximately) in which he or she lived, and location in Louisiana where the person played a key role. In addition, your entry should mention the contributions of the individual as well as discuss how the person has been significant (in a good or bad way) to the state.
7) At the end of each sentence in your glossary put your source of information. For instance, if you use Jones as a source of information, you need to provide the author (Jones), chapter, and page number (single number).
The idea is that your reader can go directly to your source of information.
Here is an example of a proper source citation for information taken from p. 27 of Terry Jones’ chapter on the French period:
Jones, French Period, p. 27.
8) Your glossary entries should use your own wordsand be 100-200 words in length. Do NOT quote. Do NOT copy word for word sentences or parts of sentences from any source (including the Jones text). Do NOT use Wikipedia. Do NOT post a cut and paste job. Entries that copy word for word or partly word for word from a source will receive zero (0) points.
9) Insert or post (do not link) at least one picture in each glossary entry. Your picture should include its source.
For example:
Jimmie Davis
