theory responce
According to McEwen and Willis, evidence-based practice is a process that involves recognizing a clinical problem, evaluating
literature, critically evaluating the research evidence, and then determining appropriate interventions to incorporate into nursing practice.
Nursing scholars note that EBP integrates research, theory, and practice to enhance patient safety and efficacy (McEwen & Wills, 2023). I
work in the operating room; the most significant evidence-based practice topic is sterility. Some examples I use in my nursing
practice in the operating room include:
Scrub attire and cover apparel should be laundered in a healthcare-accredited laundry facility after each daily use and when contaminated (Paone, 2022).
We wear our regular clothes to the hospital and pick up new scrubs each day we come to work. We leave them at the end of our
work shift because you can not monitor how people wash their scrubs at home. The hospital uses a particular laundering company to
regulate the water temperature, detergent used, the type of water, and how the scrubs are washed. This is done to protect the patient from
our home germs and to protect us from bringing the patient’s germs home.
Hair at the surgical site should be left in place (Paone, 2022).
Large amounts of hair are usually removed before surgery if needed. We use special clippers for the operating room for better
visualization of the site, to keep the incision site clean, and for better adherence of the dressings. Studies have shown that removing hair
with a razor could cause surgical site infections after surgery and should be avoided (Paone, 2022). That is why we do not advise the
patient to shave before surgery.
Jewelry that cannot be contained or confined within the scrub attire should not be worn in semi-restricted or restricted areas (Paone, 2022).
We cannot wear dangly earrings, bracelets, rings, or necklaces as they harbor a lot of bacteria. When you wear the same jewelry
daily, the bacteria will colonize on your skin and remain there even if you remove the jewelry.
