Unknown emails and attachments have been an issue since email has been used, often with no issues. Occasionally we get an email that contains malware or viruses that intend to destroy or steal information from a system. It can be an obvious email with many spelling errors and an unknown sender, or could be hard to detect, seeming to come from a known company with only one wrong symbol. It’s important that everyone know the importance of detecting a bad email before opening or downloading the material. I believe that training methods such as Interactive video training and instructor led classes would be a beneficial resource. These training methods have been proven to effectively educate best practices to avoid these scams, providing real world examples of how these attacks happen, and how to prevent them.

The topic I chose from the resources was “laptop security while on travel – address both physical and information security issues” (National Institute of Standards and Technology, 2003, p. 24). As a security analyst, I want to ensure that traveling employees are aware of and adhere to company practices with their equipment. I would inform the HR admin that web-based training would be the most effective delivery method for the content. Laptop security and information security are sensitive topics that require in-depth explanation, which makes training the most effective delivery method. An awareness campaign could be effective in relaying reminders, however, it may not provide comprehensive knowledge on the subject. It is crucial that employees fully understand the risks associated with traveling with company equipment, as mishandling can put company information at risk.
Web-based training would allow the employees to attend from varying physical locations to complete the learning content (National Institute of Standards and Technology, 2003, p. 34). This can save the business and employees money that would otherwise be spent on travel costs. As a student, I find web-based training to be quite engaging and effective at teaching me concepts. When I was a facilitator, I observed that web-based training helped address knowledge gaps and reinforced concept knowledge. Based on the success stories I’ve seen as both a student and facilitator, I’d highly recommend the company pursue web-based training. This delivery method will help boost policy comprehension and reduce risky behaviors.
