The hospital has changed over the years and now provides medical help. These include different health needs, urgent care, dental work, and feeling better services. The hospital’s supply practices ensure enough medical supplies, drugs, and tools are available. This helps give great healthcare services to patients. The logistics team looks after moving and giving out goods. The supply chain works to make different tasks smooth so that supplies arrive when they’re supposed to. It’s called the Ministry of Defence there, too! (Ministry said so on the website talk thingy [2023]) . Over time, it has grown to offer services for military people and their families. It also serves civilians in different ways. The main goal of AFH is to give excellent health care. Because of this, it has become a top healthcare place in Oman’s Sultanate country. The job of the Armed Forces Hospital is to give total health services to its people and ensure they are healthy. It aims to do this job by providing different health services like basic care, special medical and surgery help, quick emergency aid, dental work and rehab. AFH also puts a lot of importance on medicine to stop sickness and teaches health lessons so people can lead healthy lives. The hospital has the latest tools and machines for good medical care. It has special clinics and parts like heart, skin, brain stuff, eye care, bones, and kids’ departments. Also, it includes mental health aid for people who need help with their emotions or thinking issues. AFH also has high-tech testing tools that include CT scans, MRIs, ultrasounds and lab services to make sure fast and correct diagnoses are given (Ministry of Defence in 2023). The Hospital for Armed Forces has a group of very smart and experienced health workers. They are doctors, surgeons, nurses, tech people and helpers who care about sick or hurt soldiers in the hospital. The team promises to give caring and special care to every patient. We provide ongoing training for doctors and nurses to ensure they always know the new changes in what they do. It involves making plans, carrying them out and keeping watch over the smooth and effective movement of medical supplies like medicines and tools related to medicine. It also ensures that health information is properly shared among people connected with treating illnesses or diseases patients may experience under doctors’ supervision during treatment. In AFH, logistics ensures the right stuff is at the correct time and place. It also checks that it’s enough for a person or group who needs it. This is needed to help provide top-notch healthcare services and satisfy the needs of people who use the hospital. In AFH, managing the stock (items they keep on hand) is one of the main parts of logistics. The hospital uses many different medical things like medicine and tools to care for its patients’ various health needs (Al Mawali et al., 2017). It’s important to manage inventory well. This helps ensure we have enough of the basics and do not waste or keep too much stock that will be thrown away later. AFH uses different methods like figuring out how much people will buy, moving goods in and out of stock properly, and following orders to best control what items they have. It also uses a fancy software system to track what it has. This gives immediate details about how much stuff there is and helps ensure new supplies can be ordered faster with better planning. AFH’s work includes important practices about the supply chain. A supply chain means everything that must happen for a product or service to reach its final user. In the hospital world, the supply chain means getting medical stuff and drugs from suppliers to our place. This helps people in the armed forces and their families better. 12 Chapter 3 – Department Analysis and IT Support in the Organisation AFH knows that strong work by individual departments and good IT help is needed to provide top health services for military members and families. In AFH, the Clinical Department is an important part. It works with mental health services and trajectories for development. This part has many types of medical groups and places. They include heart doctors, skin doctors, brain doctors, bone fixers, caring people who take care of kids with problems in their heads, and mental health workers (Ministry of Defence report 2023). The Clinical Department helps find out what is wrong with patients, gives them the right care, and offers special services to help sick people get better. They also check on how well each patient is doing by following up regularly. This team needs skilled and knowledgeable medical workers who always know about the newest improvements in their sort of work. The Health Department also works with other groups and hospitals within the hospital. They ensure patient care is smooth, coordinated well, and has good results by all means possible. The AFH has a big nurse working area named Nursing. This is important, too. Nurses are very important for helping patients. They do things like medical tests, give out medicine and make sure people, including kids, get comfort when they’re sick or need help with their feelings. The Department of Nurses ensures that nurses are properly taught, fit and ready to help people. This includes taking care of their various needs as patients. Lastly, the part of AFH that checks for diagnosis (called the Diagnostic Department) helps determine how sick a patient is or what medicine to use. This department has testing labs. It also includes services like x-rays and pathology to check results from tests correctly using 13 sophisticated tools. It looks at little bits, makes reports for tests, and helps doctors choose how to care for patients. The Diagnostic Department also helps in research and team efforts, ensuring that ways to find illnesses get better all the time. It gives important information on how best we could handle different kinds of health issues (Ministry of Defence, 2023). AFH’s smooth operation also needs the Accounting Department. This department is in charge of many office jobs. These tasks include signing up patients and getting them ready to see a doctor, planning appointments, keeping track of health records, and money matters related to hospitals and insurance companies that help pay for services. Good office work helps us write papers, tell patients quickly and use all hospital things well. The Administrative Department also makes sure everybody follows the rules and takes care of how all aspects of running a hospital work. Moreover, IT help is very important for AFH’s work. It helps those marked departments do their tasks better and smoother. The Hospital Information System (HIS) is a full computer system that makes hospital work easier. It includes parts for medical patient records on a computer, making doctor’s visit times, money handling and pharmacy control. It also has a bit that can help with looking over soaps in storage or getting reports out of it altogether. The HIS helps doctors get patient information quickly. This makes it easier to make good choices fast. It makes talking and working together better between different parts of the business, preventing mistakes or repeats. The HIS also helps with looking at data and making reports. This aids the hospital’s ongoing efforts to get better; it also works well for research work. AFH uses many other IT systems and tech to help run its services along with the HIS. These also support treating patients better. These involve computer systems (CPOE) used by doctors and picture ways to keep and send information (PACS) for medical images like from an x-ray machine. These IT systems enhance the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery and give patients easy access to their healthcare information. In AFH, IT support is about keeping these computer systems going smoothly. This includes helping users with tech issues and ensuring their data stays secure and private. It also needs to change and improve software and hardware often to stay in line with new tech advancements. The help team for computers in the hospital stays close to different parts of it. They learn what they need from each part and give them training and support to use technology better. Therefore, it is very important to make operations work well by setting up and caring for different computer systems. 15 Chapter 4 – SWOT Analysis Strengths The AFH has several big good things that help it do a great job in giving the best medical care services. One of its big pluses is having plenty of smart and experienced doctors. AFH brings in and keeps talented doctors, nurses, and experts focused on offering patients top-quality care. These experts keep up with the newest improvements in their jobs. They use sciencebacked methods to make sure patients get the best results possible. A big advantage of AFH is its advanced structures and tools (Department for Safety, 2031). The hospital has been built with today’s best tools and medical equipment. This lets doctors find sicknesses well and then heal people really well. AFH makes sure that people get the best medical care. It uses top-notch picture systems and well-stocked operating rooms to do this job properly. The hospital spends money on special tools like computer files for medical info and remote health services. This makes talking easier, helps work together smoothly, and makes people feel better when they visit the hospital. Another great strength of AFH is their wide range of medical specialities. The hospital has many fields of speciality. They are heart, skin, brain, body, and bone checkups for kids or grown-ups and mental health (Ministry of Defence, 2023). This wide variety allows people to get special care for many health problems and use a full set of medical services all in one place. AFH’s mix of fields lets different experts work together. This makes for better care and top results when treating patients. AFH strongly focuses on patient-focused care. The hospital knows that knowing and caring for patients’ personal wants and needs is important. This way is shown by the caring and kind people who work in the hospital. Weaknesses The AFH is good at giving health services, but it also has some weaknesses that stop it from doing a great job. One big problem is that there are too many people and they have to wait for a long time. AFH has many patients because it helps soldiers and their families. It is busier when more troops are in the area or during big-time periods. This problem leads to long waits for talks with doctors, medical operations, and even hospital admissions (Ministry of Defence, 2023). The too many people problem makes waiting times longer for patients, affecting how they feel overall and possibly making sure healthcare is gotten on time difficult. AFH has less specialised services available. Even though AFH provides many types of medical care, it doesn’t have all the specialised treatments or processes that are not there. People might have to go to other hospitals or health places in these situations. This could make waiting for help longer. This referral process makes it hard for healthcare providers to match where the patient is going and keep sharing information afterwards. So, people find it hard to get some treatments, and they have to go somewhere else for health care outside of AFH. This factor can affect the hospital’s ability to give cutting-edge treatments and check tools, reducing its variety of services. Opportunities The AFH can use some big chances to improve its healthcare services. A big chance we have is using technology to make things more available and easier to get. AFH could look into growing its telehealth services. This would allow patients from far away, or those who can’t go to the hospital in person, to get doctor visits and aftercare without moving too much. Telehealth can help lessen the number of people in hospitals, shorten wait times and make it easier for patients. (Choudhry & Iqbal, 2023) AFH can put money in phone apps or online places that give details and learning tools to patients. This helps them do more things by themselves for their health needs. Also, AFH can improve its community outreach activities. The hospital can make its good health efforts stronger. This could be done through teaching health lessons, organising checkups, and joining fair events for the community’s well-being. By making good links with the local area, AFH can help people know more about health and check for diseases early. They also promote healthier ways of life and make everyone want to live well by telling them how important it is to stay away from getting sick in the first place. Getting involved will make the community healthier and build a good view of AFH as a reliable healthcare place. The AFH has another important chance to make its research and creativity better. Threats The group has some dangers that may hurt its ability to give good health care. One big problem is not having enough healthcare workers, like doctors, nurses and skilled technicians (Wang et al., 2019). The need for health care services is always growing, and groups like AFH may have difficulty getting good workers. This might happen because they compete with other places to get these skilled people, or simply working in another country beats it out. Not having enough people can make the workers do more work. This also makes them burn out fast, which lowers patient care quality and may cause longer times to get services done. A big danger could be possible limits on our budget. Money is very important for AFH’s good work. It helps keep medicines, tools, and training staff available to everyone needing care. But if the government gives budget cuts or insufficient money, this can stop hospitals from spending on needed resources and structures. This might cut down the number of services given and make it tough for the hospital to stay up-to-date with new medical gadgets. This may lead to a drop in care quality and badly affect patient results. Also, the AFH has safety problems. This is especially true in places with troubles like fighting or political disagreements. So, keeping patients, workers and healthcare places safe has to be number one. If this is not done well, it can stop the hospital from running rightly and endanger patients’ health. The issue is that the hospital’s buying, managing inventory, and sending them out are not working well together. A few things cause this problem. These include broken systems, no set rules, and not understanding what people want well. (Papalexi et al., 2020) For example, when information systems work alone, they can’t easily share or talk with each other. This makes it hard for supply chain partners to work together on important tasks involving different kinds of data sources and questions. The lack of set ways adds to the problem, making it hard, bad timing and mistakes. Not knowing who wants what makes it harder to guess and react to changes in the market. This is true for businesses, too. This link means that companies can’t make the right amount of stuff or plan production well if they don’t know how their supply chain works. They might not quickly meet what customers want. So, the link between broken information systems, not standard flow steps, and incomplete need visibility weakens overall supply chain management. This also stops efficiency or personalised reaction to changing conditions at healthcare organisations. Consequences of the current problem The effects of the current issue are many. First, bad supply chain management makes buying important health supplies and tools slow. This can cause a lack of important items, affecting the hospital’s ability to give fast and good health services. Plus, not having rules and sharing information the same way can create problems in looking after stock. Some people could have too much stuff, while others might run out altogether. This makes things more expensive and gets in the way of how we use resources. This happens because too much stuff might be stored in one place while it’s needed quickly elsewhere. However, not being able to see demand 21 patterns makes this issue worse. If we don’t have the right information about how many patients need care and their usage, it becomes hard to guess what will be needed later. This might cause the AFH to have too much or not enough supplies. This can lead to items being thrown away or run out (Papalexi et al., 2020). These problems can stop patient care and make it hard for the hospital to give good healthcare quickly. Solutions Several ways can be used to fix the bad supply chain management issue. The AFH needs to spend on one system that makes buying, keeping track of goods and giving them out easy. This would allow us to see in real-time how much stock the hospital has, its demand and what it needs when buying supplies. A main system can help different groups work better together and share resources. It ensures that supplies are bought and given out based on the real needs of each department. It’s also very important to put in place set ways and rules. The AFH needs to set up rules for managing their supplies. This includes buying, taking in new stock, keeping it safe and giving out food when needed (Papalexi et al., 2020). This method would reduce differences and make things even in how departments manage their stock. Also, the hospital needs to use methods for controlling stock, like ABC analysis. This groups items depending on their importance and how often people use them. This method lets you arrange and make improvements to the amount of stock. It ensures important material is easy to get while limiting extra stuff around too much. Making important relationships with suppliers is a way to improve the supply chain. The AFH should work closely with sellers to set up long-term deals, discuss prices beforehand and make delivery smooth. Working together can help ensure we have enough important things and reduce the time it takes to get them. Using strong demand planning computer programs can help study past data, spot patterns and guess future needs better. The hospital can improve stock levels and lower the chance of running out or having too much. This group would look after everything related to moving goods and ensuring they get delivered on time. This team should have people from several places, like buying things (procurement), managing stock (inventory management), money matters (finance) and healthcare areas. Having experts from different fields work together can help a team encourage cooperation, discover fresh answers, and push for ongoing growth in the hospital’s supply chain activities. 23 Chapter 6 – Conclusions In conclusion, the AFH is a leading healthcare institution that has evolved with time to provide an array of medical services. It has state-of-the-art facilities, medical equipment, specialised clinics, and departments. The organisation’s focus on preventive medicine, health education programs, patient safety, and satisfaction sets it apart. Logistics and supply chain practices in AFH enable efficient inventory management, support timely delivery of supplies, streamline transportation and distribution processes, and facilitate effective decision-making. IT support is also integral to the operations of AFH, where the Hospital Information System (HIS) enables efficient access to patient information and facilitates timely and accurate decisionmaking.
