Analysis of a Pertinent Healthcare Issue
Numerous national healthcare pressures and difficulties affect and have an impact on healthcare institutions nationwide. They’re all critical concerns, but some are more pressing. One of the most significant demands in healthcare is upskilling healthcare professionals. Li (2022) defines upskilling as retraining employees to learn new skills and stay in their field. Nurses need current skills due to healthcare advances, notably in technology. PwC Health Research Institute identified upskilling as one of six 2019 healthcare priorities. If healthcare personnel don’t upskill, AI may make them obsolete. Nurses have yet to employ technology to offer treatment.
Upskilling as a healthcare problem has a significant influence on my company. Developing healthcare technologies is increasingly required in diagnostics, treatments, and nursing. This leaves nurses needing more abilities to provide effective patient care. The firm allocates money to retrain and improve its nurses to adapt to technological advances. However, the firm must invest resources in this. Policymakers have had to budget for EHR training for nurses and other healthcare workers in my company. Healthcare upskilling is underway with the mandated use of EHRs. However, AI-assisted telehealth treatments will define healthcare upskilling.
Areas of Concern
Healthcare organizations must invest in employee skills to compete because not doing so will prevent the organization from competing in the ever-changing healthcare market. Healthcare is increasingly using AI. This means that advanced medical technology requires upskilled health personnel. Digitized treatments are another worry. This uses healthcare technologies to supplement or replace traditional illness management approaches. The FDA is clinically validating digital therapies and linked medical devices, which shows the necessity of upskilling nurses.
Articles on Upskilling of Healthcare Workers
Roda (2021) analyzes how the EU’s doctor upskilling initiative might address the healthcare digital skills gap. The European Commission introduced the ‘Pact for Skills’ to upskill and reskill people over five years as part of its new Skills Agenda. The “Standing Committee of European Doctors” firmly supports digital medicine. Digital skills might be general, technical, or patient-doctor-related, says CPME. Medical colleges, exceedingly specialist medical education, should teach these skills and CPD to keep doctors current on digital advances. The segment emphasizes adapting to a doctor’s specialty because neurosurgery and ophthalmology require distinct digital skills.
St-Hilaire (2022) describes EU actions to bridge the healthcare digital skills gap. The European Commission’s new Skills Agenda makes the ‘Pact for Skills’ a critical five-year program to upskill and reskill people. The “Standing Committee of European Doctors” (CPME) extensively pushed doctors’ digital skills in this initiative. To keep doctors current on digital changes, CPME advocates include digital skills in medical curriculum, specialist education, and CPD. It encourages interdisciplinary education and a multi-professional core curriculum to increase healthcare technology utilization. CPME and the European Junior Doctors (EJD) created a future-thinking and leadership training course for healthcare digital leaders to implement its agenda. The training helps practitioners handle digital health technologies and fosters healthcare innovation and learning.
Strategies to Address the Organizational Impact of Upskilling
Organizations must create comprehensive strategies that meet their goals and encourage continuous learning to manage upskilling’s organizational effect. Organizations should assess their employees’ skills and areas for improvement. This data supports targeted upskilling to fill skill gaps. Collaborations with educational institutions, industry experts, or online learning platforms can provide relevant training. Performance management systems with upskilling align employee progress with corporate goals, encouraging accountability and participation. A supportive upskilling environment is crucial. Established mentorship programs can motivate experienced workers to educate others. Rewards for upskilling encourage others to learn. Create a learning culture via knowledge-sharing platforms, seminars, and career upskilling. A good communication plan is essential to communicate upskilling benefits to employees and leadership. Building an adaptable, flexible workforce that can flourish in the ever-changing professional landscape can control the organizational effect of upskilling.
