Introduction
The health care profession is changing rapidly, and many of the new practices are based on research. In this blog post we’ll go over the difference between research, RU, and EBP.
Research is the process of systematically collecting and analyzing data.
The difference between research and practice is that the former involves systematic collection of data, while the latter is the application of findings in real-world settings. Research has been defined as “the process by which scientific information is obtained through observation or experiment” (National Institutes of Health). It’s important to note that this definition includes both observational (observing) and experimental studies—those that involve human subjects or animals.
Research can also be used to develop new products or services for consumers; for example, researchers might conduct experiments on how people react to certain products or services before making them available on the market.
