In this article, we’ll explore how to build an effective assessment system that will help you improve your teaching. We’ll look at four main pillars of assessment: knowing what you want students to learn; formative assessment; summative assessment; and student self-assessment.

The first pillar is knowing what we want students to learn.

The second pillar is formative assessment, which helps teachers determine if their students are learning the right things in class and how they can improve upon those areas.

The third pillar is summative assessment, which evaluates whether or not you’ve met your goals as an educator by assessing performance on tests and projects at the end of each unit (or year). Formative assessment.
Formative assessment is the process of collecting data to help students improve. It is a continuous cycle of learning, teaching and evaluation that helps students learn while they are still in class. Summative assessment.

For example, if you are teaching math, you might give your students an exam on math concepts from earlier in the year so that you can measure their progress over time.
Student self-assessment.
The self-assessment process should be an integral part of the curriculum, so that students are able to evaluate their own learning progress. Students should be able to provide feedback to teachers, and also provide feedback on how they feel about the course content. This can be done by completing a course evaluation form at the end of each module or assignment for each course relevant for your subject area. You may also want to consider creating a reflective journal in which you write down thoughts about what went well or not so well during lectures and tutorials, as well as any other ideas that come into your mind during lectures/tutorials (e.g., “I wish we had more time allocated towards discussing this topic”).
Assessment can improve your teaching if it’s set up correctly.
Assessment is a tool for improvement. It’s not about punishment and it’s not about failure; assessment is actually about learning and feedback.
Assessment can be used to help students understand what they know, what they don’t know, and how much further education will take them in their chosen field of study. It also allows teachers to give students ownership over their own learning by offering them the opportunity to self-assess where they are at any given point in time so that the teacher can provide feedback based on this information
