Introduction

I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints my entire life. I grew up in a religious community that championed love, charity, and service to others. It’s something that has shaped my values and my worldview, even though I am not a member anymore (see “Why do people leave the church?”). But it’s also important to note that this doesn’t mean only Mormons hold these beliefs—or even religious people at all! As humans we can be firm believers in one thing but flexible when it comes to other things.

When we consider religious issues like abortion or homosexuality, our duty as citizens should not be limited by these personal beliefs but rather should extend beyond them into other areas where there might be common ground between us all – such as education or healthcare services provided by government institutions such as hospitals or schools
