Overview
For the main assignment in this module, you will be asked to develop a cover letter and a resume as part of your career documents. The textbook and materials should have provided you various examples of what you ought to do for developing your career documents. However, knowing what not to do can be just as effective for your learning. This discussion assignment asks you to address ineffective approaches that example writers have used to create their documents. Also, this assignment will help you practice providing useful peer review.
Directions
For this assignment, you will be asked to look at examples of ineffective cover letters and resumes. Pick one cover letter and one resume to address.
Draft a professional letter to the writer of the cover letter and the resume and provide helpful suggestions that the writer can use to revise his/her/their documents. In this letter, you will want to make sure that you provide specific ways that the writer can revise their document. If there is a repeated grammar issue, don’t simply tell the writer to reread for grammar. Instead, point to examples. You may find something that the writer did well. You can address what is useful and, thus, what the writer can continue to do.
Please use the format of a professional letter to help you frame your suggestions. You can refer to Markel and Selber’s Chapter 14, pages 377-385 for examples of letters.
