Compose a personal essay (450-500 words), thoughtfully reflecting on the ways in which the Big 5 Personality, Meyers Briggs (MBTI) and Emotional Intelligence (EI) shape your inter-personal and management/leadership communications (project to the future if you haven’t been a manager yet).
Please complete the following free version personality assessments:
Big 5 Personality Test
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (the organization has added a $14.95 fee for completion–this is not a course requirement)
16 Personality Types
Emotional Intelligence Assessment
Please be aware that a free assessment does not include the complexity that a longer, paid version would have, so you should examine your results carefully. Save your results. ( WILL PROVIDE RESULTS OF THE ASSESSMENTS)
Your essay should show that you’ve completed the assessments (not tests) and all the readings/video, so be sure to discuss your results (share your scores for each assessment) and discuss what each assessment means for you and your career. Tie your reflection to the course concepts revealed in the course materials. In a personal essay, you can use the first person “I” point of view, but do not overuse “I”. The tone can be less formal than an academic paper, but you should still cite and reference sources. Areas to include:
Your strengths and areas that need more development (focus is on communication)
Examples of your strengths (or lack thereof, or both) in the workplace, include EI, 16 Personality Types, and Big 5 — or MBTI– results in your essay
Barriers that hinder your professional communication effectiveness
Plan for improving your professional communication effectiveness
Use business writing style (double-spaced, liberal use of headings, bullet points and charts/graphs/graphics as appropriate). For instance, you might use a table to show the different scores. Or, you might list various business scenarios with your strategies in a table or illustration. Or, you might list strengths and weaknesses with plans for capitalizing on strengths and improving weaknesses. Feel free to be creative to present your message effectively.
Use textbook, at minimum, as citation and reference (the 4 assessments cannot be your own references). Please use proper APA citations and references as appropriate. Double space using paragraphs and white space. Submit your paper to the Dropbox.
WILL PROVIDE AN EXAMPLE OF ASSIGNMENT
Requirements: 400-500

Communication Strengths
My strengths are having a high emotional intelligence score of 65.
I scored the highest on open to experience (95), conscientiousness (92), agreeableness (90); emotional stability (90); imagination (90).
My Jungian type is INFP which means I am reserved and creative.
I am a non-judgmental person and am easily relatable. I’m the type that gets along with most people. I’m more of a pacifist that desires people to get along or at the minimum offer mutual respect to one another. I like to learn new facts, so I am not afraid to ask questions, which is an important part of communication. I wouldn’t be a micromanager but would follow up routinely (Shwom & Snyder, 2018). I’m not afraid to share my feelings or opinions when appropriate.
Strengths
I do a good job actively listening to others. I can appreciate different cultures and walks of life. I’m a caring person and am considerate of others. I try to stay aware of what others’ might be feeling and put myself in their shoes. I can appreciate that people have different learning styles. When I have had to train people at work, I take my time and figure out which method is best for them. Some want to be watched, while some want to be left alone (Storage, 2021). Some like to be told, while others like to read the instructions. I’m good at keeping the peace and making others feel comfortable. I pause when speaking and give others a chance to talk. I ask if the other understands or if they need any help. I smile, make eye contact and I say please and thank you. I am good at staying calm and I know when I am getting heated and when to keep quiet or go take a walk. I learned not to talk when I am emotional (Ruiz, et al., 2020).
Strategies
I like to develop pros and cons list with other’s input.
I weigh things on a scale of 1-10 and get the team to weigh them so we can reach a group consensus.
I try to think of possible arguments and then think of solutions and counterarguments in advance.
I list action items by prioritizing them, most important at the top. I put deadlines next to them.
I do a lot of internal research before I pitch an idea or ask for something. I do my own survey of employees by asking them individually what they know or what they think about something.
Barriers
I try not to let things bother me and accept that “that’s just how he or she is”. I can’t change people, so I try to tailor my reactions and actions towards other people. The downside to that is I might be bending too much (Shwom & Snyder, 2018), catering towards the needs of others could be hindering me. I might be a pushover in a manager role and I would feel uncomfortable disciplining my employees, but I understand that is part of the job. I’m not a boisterous, outgoing person and would feel uncomfortable giving a speech. I scored the lowest on extroversion (25), which might make me not as well suited for a manager position (Storage, 2021).
Areas of Development
My biggest communication problems at work are not being assertive enough and not being able to think quickly (Shwom & Snyder, 2018). For example, I have a hard time asserting that we need to get back to the important issues or that I have to hang up now and get to work. When I am talking to someone in person or on the phone and I am asked a question, sometimes, I am not able to think of a response quick enough and I freeze and look uncertain. I get rattled and I often tell the person on the phone that I will research it and get back to them within the hour. I feel pressured and anxious and will second guess my answer. I know I am not suited for call center jobs. My written responses are much better than my verbal ones.
Enhancement Plan
I dislike networking, small talk and socializing at parties, luncheons, events, mixers, etc. It is emotionally uncomfortable for me and creates a lot of anxiety. I don’t see success in my future if I avoid these events, so I will try to get used to them. My plan is to go and just try to find one person to talk to. As long as I can get myself there, and inside, I think it is OK to just hang out in one area and let people come to me until I get more comfortable.
The more I learn, the more confident I become, so learning is a goal (Ruiz, et al., 2020).
To get people off of the phone, I will say, “Do you have any other questions or concerns.”
When people start to gossip in person or talk too much about non-work or work that is off topic, I will say “I better get back to work, I’ve been away for a while now and I don’t want to get in trouble.” If the conversion goes towards talking about someone, I will try to change the subject or just not comment.
As far as giving corrective feedback, I think the sooner it is done, the better. Don’t wait.
I try not to ever say “I don’t know” and that is hard for me. I pretty much stick with “Well, I will try to find an answer for you.”
I’m fortunate that I am not working now, so when I get a new job, I get a clean slate. I’m excited to put
these plans to practice.
