Explain one topic from class in a comprehensive way, using 2-3 sources from class, and clearly illustrating how the topic changed over time.
For the purpose of this paper, you must pick a topic that will allow you to explain a change
over time.** This is a history paper. It is not a paper “All about this…” or “argue for or
against something.”
Sources: This paper is required to use a minimum of 2 readings from this class. PowerPoints can be used in addition to 2 readings, but are not counted as readings. All sources must be cited in a Works Cited, and referenced by page number citations throughout the essay. ** You must include a reference that includes the page author/title and page number. In the event a student finds it necessary to use an outside source, permission must be granted from the professor, with an explanation of why student needs this source. Papers with outside sources without permission will have points deducted.
You will be graded on the following:
1. Use of two readings from class.
2. Accurate and in-depth description/explanation of sources.
3. Placing the sources within their time period. Illustrating a knowledge of the historical period (historical context). Not treating the source like it is a present-day source. Not treating something from 1900 like it is from 1800, etc.
4. Discussion of whether these sources show historical change or not.
5. Demonstrate knowledge of your topic.
6. Demonstrate knowledge of this course.
7. Include an introduction and conclusion.
8. Use of a paragraph structure that is organized. Generally, one main idea per paragraph.
9. Paper is 4 full pages, 12 point font, double spaced. (short papers have points deducted)
10. Use basic citations, stating what source is used, and page numbers.
11. Use a page number citation when quoting or referring to an idea from a source.
12. Include a Bibliography or Works Cited. Include title, author, date. (I will not be that
strict with the format) (5 points deducted if not included)
Note: This is not a pro/con paper, or an opinion paper. The goal is to show change over
time of a topic that was included in this class. *You can express your opinion briefly in intro
or conclusion.
