Research Question
The primary research question for this study is: “What is the best practice model for addressing the negative impact of hip-hop music on adolescents?”
The critical sub-questions related to this primary research question are:
1. What are the current practices for addressing the negative impact of hip-hop music on adolescents?
2. What types of interventions might effectively address hip-hop music's negative impact on adolescents?
3. How do different groups of adolescents respond to different interventions to address hip-hop music's negative impact on their mental health?
Participants
The proposed pool of participants for this study will be adolescents aged between 12 and 19 who regularly listen to hip-hop music. Adolescents from various backgrounds should be included in the study to ensure a representative sample of the population. The study should include adolescents from different races, genders, socioeconomic backgrounds, and geographical locations.
Including adolescents with different levels of mental health is crucial, as this can help provide insight into how different interventions can be effective for different populations. Adolescents with different levels of knowledge about hip-hop music should be included in the study to understand how their knowledge level affects their response to the interventions.
Finally, adolescents with different levels of access to mental health services should be included in the study to understand better how access to mental health services can affect the effectiveness of the interventions. Including a diverse pool of adolescents in the study will make the results more accurate and applicable to a wider population.
Data
The data for this study will be both quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative data will be collected through surveys and self-report questionnaires to measure the adolescents' responses to different interventions aimed at addressing the negative impact of hip-hop music on their mental health (Korstjens & Moser, 2022). Qualitative data will be collected through interviews with the adolescents and focus groups better to understand hip-hop music's impact on their mental health.
Data Collection
The data for this study will be both quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative data will be collected through surveys and self-report questionnaires to measure the adolescents' responses to different interventions aimed at addressing the negative impact of hip-hop music on their mental health (Korstjens & Moser, 2022). The surveys and questionnaires will include questions about the adolescents' demographic information, their current mental health status, and their opinions and attitudes toward different interventions to address hip-hop music's negative impact on their mental health.
Interviews and focus groups will be used to collect the qualitative data. The interviews will be conducted with individual adolescents to better understand their personal experiences with the negative impact of hip-hop music on their mental health. The interviews will also be used to explore the adolescents' perceptions of different interventions to address hip-hop music's negative impact on their mental health (Korstjens & Moser, 2022). The focus groups will be conducted with groups of adolescents to understand better how they interact with each other and how the negative impact of hip-hop music on their mental health affects their relationships with each other.
The study will also include sociometric methods, such as the Cantril Ladder and the Social Network Analysis, to better understand the adolescents' social dynamics and how these dynamics are affected by the negative impact of hip-hop music on their mental health. The Cantril Ladder will be used to measure the adolescents' overall satisfaction levels with their lives. In contrast, the Social Network Analysis will measure the strength of the relationships between the adolescents (Stone et al., 2020).
The study will also include the use of observation in order to gather data on adolescents' behavior and interactions with each other. The observations will be conducted in various settings, including classrooms, schools, homes, and public spaces. The observations will be used to gain a better understanding of the impact of hip-hop music on adolescents' behavior and interactions with each other.
Finally, the study will include archival data to understand better hip-hop music's impact on adolescents' mental health. Archival data will include data from school records, medical records, and court records. The archival data will be used to understand better the adolescents' overall mental health status and the impact of hip-hop music on it.
Data Interpretation
The data collected from this study will be analyzed using quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics to measure the adolescents' responses to different interventions aimed at addressing the negative impact of hip-hop music on their mental health. The qualitative data will be analyzed using content analysis in order to gain a better understanding of the impact of hip-hop music on the mental health of adolescents.
Audience and Medium
The results of this study will be presented to various audiences, including adolescents, mental health practitioners, educators, policymakers, and researchers. The results will also be presented to healthcare organizations, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders. The results will be presented in various formats, including written reports, presentations, and interactive multimedia. The written reports will include an executive summary of the findings and detailed information on the study methodology and results. The presentations will be designed to be engaging and interactive, utilizing videos, animations, and other visual elements. The interactive multimedia will include web-based applications, mobile applications, and virtual reality simulations.
The results will be disseminated through various mediums, including print media, online media, and social media. The print media will include newspapers, magazines, and scientific journals. The online media will include websites, blogs, and online discussion forums. The social media will include social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, and video-sharing sites, such as YouTube and Vimeo. Finally, the results will be disseminated through traditional media outlets, such as television and radio, and various digital media outlets, such as podcasts and webinars.

How hip-hop music is negatively impacting adolescents?
Mental health is a major issue affecting a wide scope of populations over the world and needs more attention to address each of the groups affected. The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, hip hop, and rap music contribute negatively to the lives of its consumers, especially children who do not identify with reality and life in general. It is clear that the influence of rap culture greatly influences negativity and shows the youth undesirable lifestyles. Violence, access to sexual content, drugs, and profanity are greatly promoted by the same.
The best two interventions that would work best in the case to guarantee improved mental health for adolescents are the introduction of interpersonal psychotherapy and Schema-focused therapy. Both therapies aim at personality reforming among the affected groups of adolescents. Through interpersonal Psychotherapy, symptoms of mental health among adolescents can be relieved. Additionally, healthcare givers would address the current problems and issues among each person. Studying the negative influence of hip-hop music on adolescents and the intervention strategies to be applied help in addressing the creation of a new delivery service and its impact on the lives of youths (Miranda,2019). New service delivery models are likely to be introduced to cater to the mental awareness of the youth after the understanding of similar cases showcased by different researchers (Travis et al,2022).
Origin, Prevalence, and Correlates of influence of Hip Hop on Adolescents
Rap music has negative influences on teens and youth lives at large. This resonates with them being drawn more to drugs, sex, and violence. Exposure to music for a longer period is likely to impact general mood changes, and perceptions and could lead to the creation of fantasies among adolescents. According to Gina M. Wing Wood who is an assistant in a health school, teen girls who appreciate and listen to hip-hop music are more prone to disrespect their teachers and hit them hence risking their chances to be arrested (Chec et al,2019). According to research, 20% of adolescents are likely to experience mental health issues at any time of the year. Often, 50% of these mental health challenges occur between the age of 14 while 75% of them are aged 24 and above (Kwon et al, 2021). Mental health statistics assert that one in four people in the world who are aged between 24 and 34 years of age have once had a year-mental disorder. According to research, the popularity of hip-hop music as of 2018 in the United States was at 21% which was leading compared to other genres (Travis et al,2019).
Significance of the research on the researcher and research design process
Through a review of extensive literature research, researchers still benefit from it by getting access to recent information concerning mental health issues among populations and newer methods to contain the same. Hence, access to newer and more informed data implies successful data formulation and the trustworthiness of the content (Onanuga,2020). In one way or another, researchers can help mental health advocates and adolescents determine early signs of mental health issues. Consequently, improved literature design is expected after going through several literature designs, and researchers can work with the different types at ease too (Okpeki,2021).
The literature review plays an important role in serving respect to addressing the topic of mental health challenges among adolescents who listen to hip-hop music. Literature review brings clarity and focuses to the research topic accordingly, it improves on the facts of the research, broadens one’s knowledge base about the same topic and indeed offers contextualized findings. Readers of the concept can derive knowledge from the general and in-depth information given through the views of different authors.
Conducting of Literature review
While creating my literature review of the topic I would focus on taking a broad perspective of the topic on mental health and the impact that hip-hop music has on adolescents. I would then review information from past books, journals, and dissertations to create helpful and accurate information to pass to readers. I would also keep track of all the citations to acknowledge the authors. Several steps that I would take part in conducting and writing of literature review are choosing the topic, deciding the scope of the matter to address, selecting databases to do research, and reviewing the literature finally.
The sources used in the research impact sound and reliable information about mental health issues that affect adolescents caused by music. Each of the authors has put great focus on the intended audience who are adolescents, reliability and quality of information are granted with the help of outside sources from other scholars and authors. Chec and his colleagues have focused on how moods are affected among adolescents by the impact of hip-hop music. On the other hand, Miranda, Okpeki, and Travis purposely address in-depth information about violence, sexuality, and other traits that tend to be affected by hip-hop music.
