Brenda is a 90-year-old African American woman diagnosed with a UTI and Weakness and was hospitalized on our unit for Observation and completion of her antibiotics. Her medical history includes high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, UTI, and early stages of dementia. She is fully supported by her family and church group. She has 4 kids and 8 grandchildren. Brenda was loved by staffs as she was full of storytelling, she loves sharing the word of God to whomever comes into her room. She was very pleasant. Brenda was compliance with her treatment. One night the nurse notices a change in condition with Brenda, she refuses her medication, yells at the nurse and asked her to leave her room. When the nurse tries to calm her down, Brenda scream and throw her personal belongings toward the nurse. Brenda was very agitated and uncooperative. She was yelling that she wants to leave the unit, she does not belong here, she wants to go home. The nurse then reaches out to the charge nurse and other staffs to see if they could help calm Brenda down, the doctors and her children was called on the phone to talk to her, Brenda pays no one attention as she continues to scream and throw stuff at everyone attempting to enter her room. She became noncompliance with her care.

Covid 19 pandemic shock the world, almost all countries in the world were unprepared and the United State was not an exemption. The Covid-19 outbreak struck the United State and the government had to put tight regulations in place to get the virus under control and safe lives. As a result, administrative offices, large and small businesses, and schools were closed and health care facilities were the only institution that were opened. The demands placed on healthcare workers escalated to a level for which most nurses were not nearly ready. The already shortage of nurses in the healthcare field couples with the need for more nurses due to the pandemic were alarming in addition, there were PPE shortages, decreased personnel availability, longer workdays, and stress on staff members’ and the community which increase mental health, were all issues. Most of the nurses who held administrative positions had too embarked as floor nurses due to the high demand for nurses and the increase in hourly rate for nurses in some healthcare institutions, for example I had to move as a nurse supervisor from my present job to a travel nurse to conduct contact tracing, interviews, as well as data collection in the field for the office of the department of health. There were a lot of controversial information about the virus to the public from different public and administrative health officials. These added stress and confusion in the lives of many people in different communities in the united State.

Covid-19 impacted healthcare drastically in all spheres of the profession. Covid-19 pandemic decreases the team’s performances. As a result of the pandemic staff members were stress due to the influx of patient with the virus and the increase in the number of nurse-patient ratio, the complexity of the virus makes it difficult to care for the patient, and the emotional impact is one of many factors. One of the health care technicians (CT/CNA’s) known as John works multiple different shifts and is always there to assist the shifts when in need. John stands out among many of his colleague because nurses always called for him to assist with difficult patient due to his muscle and strength and his strong personality, diligence, and his commitment to attending full-time LPN school. He eventually became overwhelmed during this time of the pandemic and begins to slack off, and the patients and the other team members begin to complain about him because of his subpar performance. A family member of one of the patients had to present a lengthy note to the charge nurse about John’s poor bedside manners and uncaring attitude toward their family member. The Charge Nurse was required to deescalate the situation with the Nurse Manager after two weeks of several difficulties.

The year 2020 – 2021 changed a lot for many people due to COVID 19 pandemic. The pandemic made it difficult for both individuals and families; first, the government mandated staying at home for nearly a year while wearing a mask 100% of the time. To stay sane and strike a balance in our new lifestyle was nearly impossible. After a few months into the pandemic, health scientist develops several vaccines to help curb the problem. The administration of the vaccine spikes a discussion among two staff members on the units which later turned into an argument in front of a patient family member and warrant the need for intervention. They both have diverse opinion about the vaccines, one of them had gotten the vaccine while the other staff was not convinced on getting the Covid-19 vaccine even though it was 100% scientifically proven to prevent people from getting Covid and or minimizes their chances of deeply sick due to the virus.

Covid -19 pandemic impacted visitation of family members to visits their loved ones in the hospital whether they were admitted due to the virus or not. The visitation policy was altered, No one was allowed to visit a loved ones diagnosed with Covid and were kept in isolation and those who were not diagnosed could not have a visitor as well. Patients, family members, and friends become irate and dissatisfied as a result. Patients became anxious and stressed out because of the lack of outside visibility in the rooms and their belief that they would die alone. Susan, a 75-year-old woman, was diagnosed 5 days ago with COVID and pneumonia; she also has additional comorbidities, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol which negatively impact her prognosis. Every day, Susan family communicates with the nursing team for update on Susan’s conditions and treatment plan. Unfortunately, Susan’s condition is deteriorating, the family is asking for special permission to see Susan because of his deteriorating health, but so far, management has not responded.
