You should also explore with the children their own culture, heritage, backgrounds and traditions and consider their input in planning appropriate experiences.
The experience planned and implemented must address the following themes;
– Establishment of constructive relationships with all children and families.
– Trusting relationships.
– Respectful interactions.
– Understandings of alternate world views and celebration of diversity.
Experience 1:
The planned experience should focus on events, customs, and beliefs that are relevant to the service’s children and their families.
Experience 2:
The planned experience should demonstrate respect for all home languages and expose children to different language and dialects and encourage appreciation of linguistic diversity.
a) Explain how each experience explored the culture, heritage, backgrounds and traditions of each child within the service and fostered positive attitudes for inclusion and diversity, and how;
i. the activities allowed children to use collaborative processes to solve problems
ii. children were supported (if necessary) for additional cross-cultural understanding
b) Explain how familes were provided opportunities to share their context and cultural knowledge and be involved in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the activities
c) Explain;
i. What community protocols where followed when engaging with community members, including families of the service.
ii. How the information collected was processed in a culturally sensitive way including identification of how and with whom information can be shared
d) Explain how the Early Year Learning Framework Principes (secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships, partnerships, high expectations and equity and respect for diversity) were displayed in the activities implemented with children.
e) Explain how children were supported to help them work towards a strong sense of identity, wellbeing and of being connected with and contributing to their world
