Final Paper Outline and Annotated Bibliography. For this assignment, you will submit a descriptive outline that details your Final Paper. Additionally, complete an annotated bibliography for your sources. Your outline should contain:
Thesis Statement
Body of Outline: For this section, include sub-headings that correspond to the Final Paper elements as they relate to your selected topic. Each sub-heading should contain two to three sentences describing that portion of the paper. The description should demonstrate that you have done significant research, evaluation, and critical thinking on communication as it relates to a health and human services setting as well as its application to the chosen topic. You must also indicate within each sub-heading which sources will apply to that section. Your sub-headings should include:
Define the topic.
Provide background information on the topic.
Discuss the importance of the topic.
Specific examples of applications.
Pitfalls and problems or barriers and possible solutions.
III. Annotated Bibliography: The annotated bibliography should include a complete APA style listing for each source as well as a one to two sentence description of the content of the source and how it will apply to the topic of the Final Paper. Your annotated bibliography must include at least five scholarly sources that were published within the last five years (not including the course text), two of which must be peer-reviewed journal articles.
Your outline and annotated bibliography must adhere to proper APA format as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. You can find samples of each in the Ashford Writing Center, which is located under “Learning Resources” in the left-hand navigation panel of your classroom.

Your Final Paper should illustrate your mastery of the course material as well as your insights into the aspects of effective communication in the health and human services setting and should address the application of effective communication practices.
Final Paper:
Select one of the following topics:
The Impact of Culture on Communication in the Health Care or Human Services Setting. For this topic, chose one specific culture or compare and contrast two or more cultures.
Effective vs. Ineffective Interpersonal Communication Practices in the Health Care or Human Services setting.
The Impact of Gender on Communication in a Health and Human Services setting; comparing males versus females in both the patient and provider roles.
The use of Therapeutic Communication and Interviewing in a Health and Human Services setting, including a contrast of therapeutic and non-therapeutic techniques.
The Use of Empathy as a Communication Technique.
The Art of Listening as a Therapeutic Technique.
Communicating with Families and Significant Others.
Conflict and Conflict Resolution in Health and Human Services Setting.
Your paper should be eight- to ten- pages (excluding title and reference pages) and should provide an overview of communication as it relates to the health and human services setting. It should discuss in depth the chosen topic as well as the implications and application of the topic to real life situations in health and human services. The paper must include a minimum of five scholarly sources published within the past five years (not including the textbook). At least two of these sources must be peer-reviewed journal articles. All sources must be cited according to APA format as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. At a minimum, the paper should include the following:
Introduction:
A general discussion of the importance of communication in health and human services.
An introduction to the specific communication topic chosen, including a succinct thesis statement.
A brief overview of the scope of your paper.
Body of Paper:
Define the topic.
Provide background information on the topic.

III. Conclusion:
Summarize the essential points and themes of your paper and restate your thesis.
Discuss what you have learned as well as any observations and conclusions that can be drawn from the material presented in the body of the paper. Include recommendations to any pitfalls, problems or barriers identified.
