I’m not going to get too specific with how you should write this paper. I dont believe there is only one format for every student to follow. In my mind, your paper should be 3-5 pages in length and include at least three sources (your textbook contains multiple sources, for instance the many academic articles within the text). Locating and properly citing sources is a hallmark of academic writing, so don’t be afraid to cite! In fact you are expected to make citations. Choose whichever format you prefer (APA, MLA, Chicago-style, etc.) and be consistent with it.
There are many different topics discussed in this film that bring up ethical questions on how Genetic Research currently impacts health care decisions as well as how it may impact health care decisions in the future. The most important component of this paper is your ability to connect the textbook to the film. Depth of discussion matters in this paper.
This film was selected because of its robust discussion on Genetic Testing/Research and its impact on health care decisions. A solid analysis would take academic discussions (from the textbook) and synthesize it with real-word applications (from the film). Ideally, you should attempt to apply (i.e, cite) components of the textbook weve covered so far where they apply including the ethical perspectives in the introduction, the provider/patient relationship, social justice and health policy, reproductive issues, and emerging technologies, or others if you find them applicable. I expect you to be sure and discuss ethical perspectives from the introduction and then decide what other areas in the text you want to discuss with an in depth analysis as they relate to the documentary. An in depth discussion would include at least 3 of the main topic areas of the text. I dont expect you to cover every topic area in the text as it would not be possible in a three page paper..
