The purpose of this assignment is to engage in an analysis of Family Centered Practices (FCP) to raise awareness of the role Educators play in creating partnerships and opportunities for family involvement. Students will apply systems thinking to investigate the various ways to address the unique needs of children and their families. As well, students will engage in thoughtful reflections and investigate how FCP approaches & practices inform their professional practices. Rational: Through this assignment, students will practice their oral and written communication skills to conduct an interview to learn about the ECE profession and write a report to complete an analysis on FCP. Students must practice critical mind-set to intentionally assess the importance of family-centered practice in early learning and care settings. It is recommended to connect with an educator who has been working in the field for three to six years. Their answers and information gathered during the interview will inform you of the practices and various roles the ECE play to support children and families throughout their daily routines. The selection of the practitioner can connect directly to your field placement. Alternatively, you can interview a practitioner from childcare, school, Early ON in your Neighbourhood or a community program. Before the interview takes place, take some time to visit the school/center’s webpage to gather general information about the program, philosophy, mission, and practices. This will help you to frame the questions. Pages: 5-8 typed pages (+ cover page + reference page) Focus of the interview: The focus of the interview is for you to gather information on how the professional ECE practice FCP on regular basis to build positive relationships with parents and caregivers. It is also important to gather information on how the practitioner combines theory/concepts/knowledge to support their teaching and daily interactions. Lasty, the information collected from the interview, will help you prepare for your field placement and future practice. Specifically, learning about the trends in the field that continue to influence the work of ECEs. Suggested steps to conduct the interview and frame your questions: 1. Start the interview by introducing yourself, share the necessary information to build trust with the interviewee. For example, explain that this exercise will help you build confidence to conduct professional interviews and conversations in the field-practicum environment/future workplace 2. Ask permission to record the session & explain that this is to help you write your assignment. Reassure them that you will delete the recording as soon as you complete your assignment. 3. Ask the interviewee’s name, job title, years of work in the field, duties & responsibilities in the classroom. 4. Ask the interviewee to share the name of their workplace, description of the setting (church, school.), and their work history (including years of experience) 5. Ask the age group they work with? Why are they working with that specific age group? How they feel about working specifically with this group & their families? 6. In this section, you are providing an answer to all the questions selected to conduct your interview • For each question, write two-three paragraphs long.
