Web source evaluation skills improve through practice. The more sites you study critically, the better you’ll be at making sense of sites you encounter in the future. Even if you are already an extremely savvy web searcher, you can further sharpen your web-analysis skills. A particular benefit of studying web sources with a group of peers is that you’ll be confronted with a wide range of web sources and a wide range of strategies for learning more about those sources. A more immediate practical benefit of this activity is that it may lead you to a source that you can reference–knowledgably–in the Project Intro due at the end of Week 1.
This Web Search Activity will prepare you for the Week One Discussion 2: Web Source Evaluation. But before you dive into that assignment, please read the following chapters from Web Literacy for Student Fact Checkers:
