What conflict have you faced in your own life? This will be the basis of your narrative.
I have been struggling for the last 3 years with a never-ending battle with Anorexia Nervosa. I didn’t think I was strong enough to fight against this battle. I was so scared. I just wanted to eat again and yes, you might ask, “I thought people who suffer from such disease don’t like consuming food?” That’s not true for the most part. In fact, we love food. Maybe a little too much, and we seek control over that situation. Moving forward, as this story explains, I did experience recovery. I tried and tried. And it’s been 3 years as I’ve already mentioned and to this day, it’s still a battle I have to fight for probably the rest of my life. But what matters is that I’m strong and that I’m overpowering it. It doesn’t rule my life anymore; it doesn’t control me anymore. I’m able to enjoy life again and the best part? I survived.

Moving forward, she started to consider recovery at the age of 15. She is homeschooled and has a lot of time in learning/studying once more, learning is fun again, so are her hobbies. She enjoys baking, especially things full of the flavor green tea (Matcha). She is also quite good at art—sketching people is by far one of her favorites, and she’s so happy she’s able to commit to her favorite hobbies again. She lives in St. Petersburg as she’s just recently moved from the countryside of Florida to the more city side. The city makes her happy and inspired, and of course her favorite part is that there are tons to explore.

She is married but has no children, that is why she loves kids in the hospital, she loves to take care of them as her own children.
• How would you describe the antagonist’s personality and attitude? She has a pretty face and great personality. That is why, everybody in the hospital loves her. She is strict and would help everyone if she can including people who are struggling with Anorexia, Bulimia, and so on. As she has struggled in the past with one herself, she understands each patient in a way, making her a even better fit to be Josilyn’s dietician. She makes sure that everything is according to the rightful thing and good of others.
Conflict
• What conflict does your protagonist face? Josilyn wanted to give up as she already relapsed twice and had no consideration of recovering. Her eating disorder was ruining her friendships, relationships with family, and even relationship with her own life. She is experiencing the worst of her life. She is a perfectionist when it comes to anything, making it harder to achieve anything as she always feels to be the best.
• Who or what causes the conflict? The conflict is a near-death experience from an eating disorder— about 3-month hospital stays, 6-month treatment stay, tube feeding but the fear of weight gain. And also, the dietician who did not give up on the protagonist’s recovery. She did everything to do her job well done and that created conflict on the protagonist’s current situation.
• Who is involved in the conflict? The ones who are involved in the conflict are Josilyn and Danny. Josilyn doesn’t think she’s ready for recovery. She didn’t think she’s sick enough to receive treatment or to even be diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa. However, Danny in this situation tries to prove to Josilyn that recovery is possible, and that there are other things in life than just trying to isolate herself in rooms of fear. Each day, Danny challenged Josilyn with something—therapy sessions and even giving recovery a chance. A chance that will change her life. Moreover, the dietician even mentioned, “Remember, this eating disorder is stopping you from being yourself, Josilyn. Eating gives us the fuel in life upon entering everyday activities. You love to run, but as you already know with you being malnourished and not giving a chance to recovery, you might never run again.”
• How will the protagonist respond to the conflict? She slowly started to realize that she should give recovery a chance since she started to get extreme hunger. Though she hated herself for it, she gave it a try. Also, she remembered everything Danny has told her. The words of wisdom she constantly thought of, these encouraged her to seek out for recovery, actually try to get better and healthy again instead of focusing on trying to be sick. With this being said, she started to eat solids again. Weeks later, she was healthy enough to get her NG-tube removed and lastly, healthy and strong enough to leave the hospital. Of course, this wasn’t the end as she still had a treatment plan to go to, but she knew she was ready. She was ready to kill this eating disorder.
• What is the outcome of the protagonist’s response to the conflict? As the protagonist outweighed the positive and negative, she decided to be more positive in life despite the scary and unsure result. Then, she slowly showed improvement and gained her love for food again. She finished her treatment plan, and was ready to be home again. With this, she felt refreshed and renewed in life; also loved exercise and enjoyed rest days with her family and friends. She’s happy and contented on the result of her courage to defeat death.

The setting takes place in the hospital, which Josilyn was put in because of the dangers of her eating disorder that almost ended her life. The conflict of this story was an up-and-down recovery process Josilyn had to take to gain her freedom back in life, for her to see the beauty of it every single day. Indeed, life doesn’t have to be an everyday threat, but a great day to wake up and enjoy nourishment again.
The characters are the protagonist named Josilyn. A girl who thought that recovery wasn’t possible for her, and wasn’t worthy of achieving it. And the antagonist named Danny who saved Josilyn’s life by her words from the beginning of her journey towards recovery process. Also, it’s Danny who showed Josilyn a different perspective in life—a more meaningful view than just your outside appearance and that everyone deserves to nourish his or her body.

The turning point is that when Josilyn realized that all of her friends and family were there for her despite she drove them away. She also realized that she needs to fight for her happiness and life. This encouraged her to change her way of thinking, that maybe she does have a chance in the whole recovery thing. After all, she had her ups and downs, but she managed to do it all. Her relationships are stronger than ever. Friends and family finally understand her and she feels once loved again.

Think about who can best tell the story—a narrator who is inside the story (first person) or a narrator who is outside the story but knows the thoughts and feelings of the characters (third person omniscient). The point of view used in the story is the third person omniscient, who is outside the story but knows the thoughts and feelings of the characters. This point of view allows the audience to interpret the emotions and feelings of the story.
