Elise- Introduction
Define and explain the selected global issue
and its universal implications
• Give a brief history of gender inequality.
• Discuss how far we have come.
• What was the turning point in history that made gender equality a global issue?
• Why is gender equality a global issue?
• Briefly explain how we are not in the right place yet.
Sofia: compare the US’ and the other nation’s
stance of the global issue
• Define the scale used to determine how countries are ranked in terms of gender equality
(GII- Gender Inequality Index)
o What are the positives and negatives that are taken into consideration
• Where does the United States rank in Gender equality? (In the 2022 GII survey I believe
the US was ranked 30th)
o What are we doing correctly/ incorrectly
• Where is Iceland rated on the gender equality scale? (GII survey 2022 says #1)
o What are they doing correctly/ incorrectly
• Is the United States making any changes to policies regarding gender equality that could
move us up on the list?
o What can be done?
Glory/ Natalie: analyze and argue your position
on the problem through the
examination of multiple cultural,
philosophical, ideological lenses
• Why is gender equality important?
• How does it affect everyone?
• How are people from different cultural backgrounds treated differently when it comes to
gender equality, especially in the countries with the least gender equality below:

• Through a philosophical lens: take a deep dive into the right and wrong, the moral and
political claims surrounding gender equality.
• Feminist philosophy
o Plato radically promoted the idea that in an ideal society, all worthy individuals
would receive training and an education regardless of sex. He promoted the idea
that women would inevitably become more equal to men if they received
appropriate training.
• Gender Ideology: a set of beliefs about the proper order of society in terms of the roles
women and men should fill based on sex.
o Traditional- men are the breadwinners, women stay at home
o Transitional- the husband identifies as having the primary role or breadwinner
but also supports his wife’s desire to work if she prioritizes household over career.
o Egalitarian- Roles should not be segregated by gender, men and women hold
equal roles at work and at home.
• The gendered separation of roles.
• What is our position? What would an ideal world look like?
Latoria/ Yvonne: address the role of teachers and global
education in promoting understanding and
action on the global issue
• What can teachers do to promote gender equality in the classroom?
• What research-based techniques have been studied and show that promoting gender
equality in children is beneficial?
• How can we prepare our students for a world that is not currently gender equal?
• How can we teach them to be part of the change?

Closing Statement:
• Briefly summarize gender equalities importance.
• The United States and Iceland
• The moral rights and wrongs of gender equality
• Why teachers are important in this issue
• Wrap it up
