DQ1 An Integrated Staffing Management System
Creating as well as maintaining a fully and correctly functioning integrated staffing management system for a going concern is part of the strategic function for an organization. Consider an organization that you have some familiarity with. Perform an information search (general online or via the library) about your selected organization. In your first post, analyze the key links between your organization’s goals and strategies and the staffing system. How do successful staffing strategies contribute to your selected organization’s success? Why is this information important to consider and discuss?
After making your first post, engage with your colleagues about their ideas.
DQ2 Team Formation
Team Formation Discussion
Students, as you are undoubtedly aware, organizations complete a complex process to hire the right people for positions.
During the remainder of this course, you will be working in a temporary organization that is charged with completing the Course Project.
In order to staff the organization, students will collaboratively determine the important characteristics for the position of “team member”.
Then, in a separate step, every team member will interview one another during a series of web conferences and determine appropriate team membership.
Read and review Chapter 1 of the text.
In Chapter 1, there is a lengthy discussion of the characteristics that may be important when hiring individuals.
Let’s discuss those characteristics in this Threaded Discussion.
Based on the aforementioned analysis, judge which characteristics are important for the position of team member for this class.
(The following questions are the focus of this discussion topic.)
In a group interview, how can you determine whether a potential team member has those characteristics?
Are there “deal breaker” characteristics that would absolutely prevent you from wanting an individual on your team?
(Or at least would be heavily weighted against them?) If so, what are such “deal breaker” characteristics? Why?
Team Formation Interviews and Formation (Ending Week 2)
After we have developed an idea of what characteristics are important, we will hold group interviews to begin to select our groups.
I will be scheduling [three or four, depending on class size] WebEx conferences.
For campus based classes <or> *Onlive* classes, the conference will occur during a class meeting.
They will be at different times to accommodate different student availabilities.
I will start the meetings but hope that you all will form into a group discussion.
The goal of these meetings is to allow you to gather information necessary to form a self-managing work group to complete the Course Project.
If a team forms during one of the meetings, just say so during the meeting.
If you are not in a team by the end of the meeting, you may attend another meeting to try to find “your” team and teammates.
Please note: You will be graded on your participation in the meeting(s), how effectively you use the time to find new members, and that you ended up in a team.
Be sure to use what we learned in this threaded discussion.
